gasoline smell from airfilter?
« on: January 16, 2024, 10:07:30 AM »
I removed the airfilter from my motorcykle (Honda nighthawk 650 1983). The filter looked like brand new, but in the airfilter box there was a smell like gasoline? should it smell like gasoline? (didnt smell so much,  but there was a smell)

the motorcykle has been standing for like 5 years, so I was suprised that it could even smell anything now

Is it a paper filter or is it a K&N reusable filter? If K&N it might be the oil smell.

Check your air filter box drain tube(if it's still attached)to see if it has raw gasoline in the drain;this is for PVC vapors to collect.
Drain the fluid out of the tube from the bottom plug to see if it contains lots of gasoline and if so,your carburetor float valves may be overflowing gasoline because of dirty float valves and the carburetors need cleaning.

I have some K&N pods from a bike that has not run in 20 year and you can still smell something petroleum related on them.
