CB160

Hi sorry this is not a four cylinder Honda but a Honda question all the same.
I am trying to determine where to measure the float height from on my carbs. There is conflicting information out there between using the gasket base or the outside body of the carb? Anyone have a definitive answer please?

The CB160 came with 2 slightly different carbs.

One type had no 'notch' along the sides of the gasket surface, it was a contiguous rim around the outside of the float bowl's gasket.
The other type (later bikes) had a notch made in the outer edge of the float gasket's surface. This opening was to help fit a float gage into the spot where the bottom of the floats was then touched by the float gage's height-measurement surface.

The early version almost required the use of vernier calipers to be able to touch the gasket surface and also the highest surface of the bottom of the floats (carb inverted). The later version allowed use of a common float gage made from sheet metal.

The later version became standard on all of the similar carbs after that, including the SOHC Fours.
