New member Plymouth, England

Finally got hold of a 1973 CB350f in red. 33K on the clock, looks in very good condition. Had a quick ride around the local area and found a few things that need fettling.

First is a leaky fuel tap when 'ON' so seals and a new filter ordered to hopefully fix that.
Next up is a new clutch cable as the one on there looks a little 'tired', but don't we all after over 50 years!!!
Another job to do is change the speedo dial to read mph not kph as the bike was never intended for the British market.
Tax exempt, MOT exempt registered with DVLA (UK Department of Transport) as a classic vehicle. Haven't driven a motorbike for about 20 years but prior to that had been a biker since age 18.

Started first time and my first run was limited by the small fuel leak. Plan is to use it as a daily driver commuting the 3-4 miles to work a few times a week (although will be retiring soon, some would say not soon enough!).

I will be looking to change the seat and maybe the bars for clip-ons BUT there will be no grinding off of tabs on the chassis and no pod filters, those Honda guys knew what they were doing when they designed the airbox!. ANY modifications will be ONLY 'bolt on' so the bike can be returned to stock at any time.

I'm a 57 year old lecturer in computing with a PhD in AI and also a time served fitter and mechanical engineer. Also spent a few years as a Navigator in the Royal Air Force for kicks and giggles. Have a 'shed' in the back garden where she lives now alongside a car build that has taken 17 years so far so don't expect quick progress here. Will post pics of my little baby when I hit the 5 posts mark. Anyway rant over apart from....

Welcome. 350Fs are great bikes, had a few over the years and have two now.

I use my 350F here to commute 3 miles or so to my work.

And... if you want to trade a mph speedo for your kph speedo, I'd be game. I live in Mexico City so it's kph for me. I think you need 5 posts or so before you can PM, but lemme know if you're interested and we can go from there.

Welcome, Doc!
The 350F is my personal favorite of the SOHC4 series, despite never owning a running one myself (I do have a 350F project bike, though...).
I'm all for your stance on the airbox: you are dead-right-on about the design Honda did with it. ;)

If you can tolerate the leaks for a little while: the rubber bits in the fuel petcock shrink when they have been dry for a long time. This is due to the way gasolines are made now vs. how they were formulated in the 1970s, and once the neoprene is subjected to the 'new' gas it becomes slightly porous and also then shrinks as it dries out. Even on my own 750 I must turn it ON about once a month in Winter here, then back OFF to wet it, lest it weep gas a while come Spring.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

BenelliSEI, its a Ford GT40 Mk 1 circa 1966. Had the chassis made to original drawings in New Zealand, original gearbox and rear clip and many other original parts. Engine is a 1975 302 ci block but will 'only' use 289 displacement (4.7 litres). Original Italian carbs, an original ZF gearbox (was one of the original batch sent to Carol Shelby) and a HUGE hole in my bank account.

Carnivorous, sorry but I already have the 'sticker' to replace the speedo gauge from kph to mph. After the fuel cock its the next job on the bike.

HondaMan, it was your FAQ's and other threads hear that convinced me to leave the airbox alone. First thing I have ordered is a new seal for the fuel cock and also a new filter and o ring for the 'bowl' that sits below the tap. I'm sure you have probably seen it but have you heard of Alan Millyard? he took 2 engines and recreated a 6 cylinder in line engine as homage to the Honda RC166, he has posted videos on you tube about it and no that is not on my to do list.....  ;D

Right to work....

Welcome aboard the forum Doc

Have a blast on your 350. Back in 1974 when I had bought a new CB450, I had a buddy that had a 350F and we would swap off bikes on our rides occasionally. It was a fun bike to ride and he had put a set of Hooker Headers on it so it sounded great which got me to thinking about getting a 4 cylinder, and that did happen the following spring when I sold the 450 and bought a new CB750 K5.
BTW my favorite car to watch in all the races I could catch on the tube was the GT40. Congratulations on getting one and building it.

Gotcha. Lemme know if you reconsider (bike will show higher Kms ridden, and opening up those suckers and getting 'em resealed is a PITA...). Otherwise I'll keep looking.

my (fuel) cock seals arrived today so will sort out the fuel valve at the weekend, and maybe do a short vid of it and hopefully post it in the correct forum, and I think that's 5 posts so watch out for pictures (not in this thread) of the bike and car.
