How do I install this on my bike?
« on: March 23, 2024, 09:43:23 AM »

When I bought my Honda 650 nighthawk 1983, previous owner told me he had a bag for the bike and gave me this “bag” and some settings for motorcykle. But when I look at this I don’t have any ide how to install it on the bike. Is there anyone out there who has a picture of how this could be placed on the motorcykle?

One thing is for sure, it is not called a bag but I don’t now the name for it:)

In the USA some have called this a "tour pack". Kind of a Harley Davidson and Goldwing thing over here.

That is a "rack" that fits at the back of the bike, 2 sides and a top. Unless you have a seperate box of fittings good luck it putting it on any bike.
The "bag" or more appropriately top box fastens to the horizontal rack

I'm guessing that the two sides fit next to the rear wheel. I'm not really familiar with CB650s -- never owned one -- but you may be able to figure out where it goes by looking, and you may be able to find hardware that works at a store. Might not be the prettiest, but it might be functional.

Offhand, I'd say the 2 side pieces are held together with the 4-bar top piece, but you're lacking the straps/mounts/bolts to attach the assembly to the bike. Once there, the tourpak (tail trunk) would sit atop the assembly. The mounting hardware is usually selected to match the bike in question.

Panniers are bike bag accessories that carry items, usually with two compartments.

we call them saddle bags on a motorcycle but apparently bicyclists have their own word, but the side racks may be for that purpose ?

Here is my guess, hold them up to the bike to see. I think the 3 tabs might fit to the rack part. More brackets or clips may be needed.

Holding one of the side portions of the rack up to the side of your bike, note any mounting holes on the rack that might coincide with mounting points on your bike such as passenger footpeg or upper shock mount, possibly even rear fender bolt.

Here's a couple of pics that might help you.

As above the two tabs on the big square would fit to the top and bottom of the shock; the third tab would be to attach to the winker mount. Then the 4 barred bit fits across the top to hold both sides together.

You may have to make some additional brackets.

You can get flat strap steel or aluminum at your local hardware store to make the needed brackets. I prefer steel to aluminum because it cracks less often, but it does require painting before steady use, lest rust ruin the view.
