Golf cart not for golf.
« on: May 06, 2024, 05:52:23 PM »
We tow the dragster back from every run with a 1998 club car, always did the job but lately it's getting a little doggy, it's got the 7 hp Kawasaki engine, the little one. The carb body wore out and I put what I could find on it (cheap china repop) which isn't great.
I'm wondering about a 22mm mikuni, I'd have to make it work. I can't do the big harbor freight motor swap because it requires a lift kit and I have zero cart roof to trailer door opening clearance.

Anyway, today we looked at new ones. Holy Crap, a nice gas powered one is more than we paid for a 2 year old Honda Accord Coupe. It has a 12 HP Kohler EFI engine, 4 seater, roof, no lift kit, no $1200 radio, no oversize tires, yes to a wide rear view mirror, windshield, clip board on the steering wheel, light kit, lockable small trunk under the back seat that folds into a truck bed, trailer hitch. Blue over black. Nearly $15K.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I'd be looking for a slightly used, more powerful tow cart.  ;)

We have an EazyGo electric golf cart and it is pretty torquey. It goes up our steep 1/4 mile long hill with 2 people on board no problem. I would think it will tow a dragster around all day on flat ground no problem.
Even with all the abuse it suffered in it's previous life on the golf course it's been very reliable. It is packing 4 - 1000 cold cranking amp deep cycle batteries and goes for a long time between charges.

There's an EazyGo dealer not too far away in Everett and we can buy any part we need, no problem. You can also get better power controls, better batteries and motor. Electric vehicle technology has been beneficial for the electric golf.

I haven't seen any electric carts at the track yet, I can see advantages and the batteries are for sure improving. At this track when we pit on the far side, we tow 3/4 of a mile with a couple hills and drive the same distance not towing.

Our ancient Yamaha G2 seems indestructible, but lately my youngest grand daughter has really being abusing it. I think I paid $1000 for it 5 years ago (tit’s not pretty). Like you I was shocked when checking around. Prices are at least 5 X that now!

Laura really wants to get a John Deere Gator for the Michigan property. A nice 4x4 with a hydraulic dump bed and plow. They sell for a similar number to the golf cart you are talking about and use the same engine.

The older 6x6 Gators seem to sell for very reasonable prices, $4k-$5k, and should be able to haul the dragster plus any gear or tools without any difficulty.

Don’t cut that 7hp out…

I’ve seen a Hyundai 7hp four stroke stand straight up (when fitted with rear tractor tread tires) ejecting 5 of the 6 intoxicated passengers when hill climbing at 3:00am…

Of course I’m only admitting to witnessing the event… and that’s my story…🤫

Don….. everyone around here is complaining about my “scruffy” looking golf cart. I shopped around and you are RIGHT! The prices have gone insane.
