Too Tall for CB750?
« on: May 16, 2024, 08:19:21 AM »
Hey Guys, Now that I've been able to take my CB750 out some more and get some miles, I find that I am too "tall" for the bike. On my CB750A 1978, I comfortably sit right on the seat strap and it rubs my butt raw over a few miles. If I slide forward my knees sit above the tank and it doesn't feel comfortable in corners. Is there a taller seat, or lower footpegs to make it more comfortable? Should I just pack some more foam into the seat?
Young, Dumb, and Broke, hoping to fix 2 of those.

Not sure about that seat strap, I cannot feel mine through my blue jeans.

Is it the stepped seat?  Consider removing the strap if it bothers you.

I’m 6’3 and I wasn’t comfy until I put on some rear sets. Granted, I also put on clip-ons.

Could try different bars or seat?

I am 6`4, 36` seam and ride a CB750K4 and K2 with stock seats. Sit in the middle of the seat over the strap. Never bothered me except at the end of a long 300+ mile day.

Not sure what’s uglier….. That seat or the fairing/ front fender!

The luggage rack is really a strong contender too, custom made for the laundry basket ??

I removed the strap on my OEM seat not long after I got the bike. But, I am much smaller than you: I am 5'10" and 34" inseam.

ebay has lowering/raising mounts for footpegs, can't find them at the moment but have a search, they drop the peg about 2 inches, retains folding function and stuff
i blame Terry

I've been thinking about this and finally dug out some old photos of my early K2 days. I removed the seat strap on my K2, too. IIRC it was because after 1000-mile days it made a sore spot on my butt, pinching it between the strap and my wallet.

The stepped seats some bikes have force me too far forward and it is really uncomfortable and I think a little unsafe as you don't have control as easily given your toes are going to have to move further if the seating position pushes you to more of a toes down attitude.
Seat mods are the only solution if not changing foot peg and controls location.

you could go with forward controls but given the width of the engine they kind of put you in the birthing position while you're moving and as they also have to be set quite high its quite awkward getting your feet up there when you first take off

+1 remove the strap

+2  I always remove the factory seat straps on my vintage bikes.
I much prefer a long,flat seat so I can slide-back and tuck low,when needed.
