7 Years ago today I left on an adventure
« on: August 13, 2024, 02:50:16 PM »
8/13/2017 I headed out from my sister's home south of Chicago for Dolores, CO and the SOHC4 Family Reunion. 13 days and 4700 miles later I returned to my home just north of the city. I spent a few days hanging with a bunch of great people from the forum, rode through the beautiful mountains of Colorado, the deserts of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. I spent the night in Monument Valley, rode part of old Route 66, rode on US 191, the Coronado Trail, broke down in Arizona and was rescued by Lloyd "TwoTired" and his wife who drove 2 hours to bring me a new valve clearance screw to replace the one that had bent.

Sounds like a great trip, Danny.

Years ago I did a long bike trip with my brother to Colorado, it is one you will never forget.

It is crazy to think it has been 7 years already.  We had a great time.  It was a good thing that you put together, Danny.

Jerry, how true about more time under the belt than miles. ;D Besides time, I've added a few pounds under my belt. I've had to get a new belt, and new jeans with an additional 2 inches in the waist! :o
Greg, can you please post the videos? The whole Weber session was the highlight of the event for me. ;D

Looks like a great time. Road trips are adventures and you never know what is around the next corner.

Sometimes a deer or a cow (or a herd of them), an oncoming commercial vehicle or RV or other vehicle in your lane, big potholes, rocks and gravel, floods and washouts across the road, snow drifts, downed trees and power lines, dumb asses on bicycles taking up the whole road, dumb asses on motorcycles overcooking a curve into your lane, junk that has fallen off trucks (lumber and cinder blocks one memorable time, a spare tire once, a camper once, and firewood many times), landslides, unsigned road construction in progress, cop cars in the lane of travel having pulled someone over, tar snakes blanketing the road surface on a hot day...the list goes on.  Yup, always an adventure, especially out in the middle of nowhere.
