Case Paint for a '72 CB500/4
« on: October 23, 2024, 02:15:55 pm »
I'm right in the middle of two projects, actually - I have the CB500 up on the slab in the lab, and a another CB350F as my 'side piece'. But I was working on the head of the 500 today, cleaning it up with my vapor blaster, and while it came out looking great, I was wondering what paint is a good paint to paint the cases with...? I finally built a vapor blaster over the summer, and I really should have built one years ago, it's freekin' fantastic! Here's a Before and After pic:

And also I don't know if anybody uses this valve keeper remover and installer from Lisle, but these things are fantastic for taking out and putting in valve keepers. When I took my valves out I did it the old-fashioned way, with that funky C-clamp looking POS valve remover; with these, all you have to do is basically put the silver part over the valve while it's still in the head and strike it with a BFH or similar, and the valve keepers get caught by a magnet in the handle; same for installing them too: put the keepers in the disc that covers the springs, locate the dark part of the tool over the keepers and BAM! Hit it with the aforementioned BFH, and they pop right in! It saves SO much time! I can't recommend it enough...

But back to my original question, what's a good Rustoleum paint for the cases...?

No experience with Rustoleum, but have used Dupli-Color Aluminum Spray Paint - DE1615

I painted the cases on a 750 and 550 with it and like it.

Duplicolor is going to be easier solution. POR Engine Enamel is excellent if you prep it properly and spray it on, spray gun, brushes it goes on a bit heavy unless you thin it. It levels beautifully and is very durable once cured. Highly resistant to gas and oil and won't dull from either.
