The pit gets deeper ! Short version. Will a 500 or 550 LOWER case fit a 1979 650 case. Or, how do I fix this ? Appreciate any help or humor. Having fun.

If you have the broken part maybe a TIG welder can repair it, yet the threads inside maybe an issue for the bolt threading into the bung.

Broken portion is gone from a previous owner. I agree, matching up threads would be a pain. As a last ditch effort I'm going to put in a greased bolt, pin and build up a JB molded collar in place. Trim and level it as best as I can. This project has been expensive and time consuming. Unexpected problems are constant. I'm at the end of my rope and may cut my loses. I've been trying to simplify life and not doing well with this. Learned a great deal but I really can't afford it any more.

JB Weld will never stand up to the torque/pressure required to seal the filter canister. Time to cut your losses. As Bryan noted a complete engine case replacement will be required and all the associated costs of transferring the internals etc.

Thanks or the replies. Throwing in the towel. I've replaced or repaired to many things on this project. Over the last couple of years I've learned a great deal about Hondas and developed some good repair skills at a steep price. Time to turn my focus back to other projects and hobbies. I'll list parts on the classified here as I get the courage too. Cheap to free. Thanks again, Tom.

The only fix (other than replacement cases) I can think of is to cut the rest off, somehow smooth the face off, have a machine shop make a replacement aluminum threaded stub, and have it welded to the the case.

Yes I would split the cases and have a threaded stub made and Locktite that in or weld.
