« on: June 17, 2005, 09:01:46 AM »
What is the widest rim / tire combo that can be laced to a rear hub of a CB750K without mods to the frame or swing arm...

thanks!

I have a 1977 CB750F, that I would love to put a 150 on.  did you have any trouble with that 'torque link component' that attaches to the rear break caliper?  Don't know how different the 75 is from the 77.

did you have to mod this piece, or do they sell an after market part, or do you not need to do anything to it?

thanks,
cooper

ive got a 5.10x16 tire on mine.not too sure what the rim size is,the chainguard rubbed at the front(had to trim it) and the brake arm had to be moved out about a 1/4 inch.not a problem tho.

You guys don't find the tire rubs on the swingarm, on the right side?

if you need a little extra room on the chain side, the 77-78 ran a 630 chain that was spaced wider. PO of my 75 used 78 630 SuperSport sprockets to get a larger tire on the back and run a bigger chain with the overbored motor (811cc). For those running a drum rear brake you can space the brake rod out with longer bolts and a few washers, just watch that you don't go to far or over tighten it or it will not move with the suspension. just cause a 150 tire fits on a 16" rim doesn't mean it will fit on an 18" rim. Anyway to run bigger than 130 you will have to swap out the stock width rim.

As for the chain guard, it pays to find a way to rig something up rather than run without since it was a problem with early cb750s (and the early f models) with the chain letting go. Most good quality modern chains are strong enough to keep this from happening but still why take the chance. I'd rather have a rigged chain guard than have to explain to the ER doc why my leg looks like it lost a fight with a chainsaw.
