Carbonated spokes???
« on: June 17, 2005, 11:01:43 AM »
Ummmm...  Am I totally out of the loop regarding new fangled terminologies?

"Carbonated spokes probably need to be replaced and needs new gaskets."  Hmmm...  Well then.

carbonated usually means to dissolve carbon dioxide in something.  Traditionally this
refers to liquid water having carbon dioxide diffused through it to produce seltzer or
fizzy water.  Presumably this means that the spokes of this bike have become fizzy.
I'm not entirely sure what fizzy spokes do for a motorcycle (or against it), but the fortunate
thing about dissolved gas is that it tends to be very unstable in solution, particularly at
higher temperatures.  This would suggest that if the spokes were allowed to stand
uncompressed at room temperature that they would lose their carbonation spontaneously and require no manual interaction.

On a side note, the traditional term for a formerly carbonated substance that has spontaneously lost its carbonation is "Flat", however.  This phenomenon is frequently encountered by inexperienced drinkers of fermented malt beverages who engage in the practice of nursing their beers.  I am not at this time prepared to theorize about the
characteristics or qualities of "Flat" spokes on a motorcycle, but I would suggest that
it is preferable to the antonym: "busty" which could, at a stretch, be defined as "prone to
breakage".

Man if you ever want to run for office I am behind you 100%.  That story just gave me chills.  The plot thickened and held me until the end.  I can't wait until the sequeal.

These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

"Has been modified with the cam and pipes. It is a real performer. It has not been started in 2 years"
This is based upon the ebay principles of a 'full and acurate description' so as to avoid any unpleasantness at a later date.

The first part tells a little of the state of the camshaft, i.e. it is no longer to Honda specs - it's knackered.
Going on to the pipes, these likewise are in a state that is likley to render the vehicle unsuitable as a form of transport, i.e. rusted out and bashed to hell.

It's a real performer - trickey this part, I can only conclude this is an affirmation that the machine realy exists unlike those purchased from some less reputable traders based in the african sub continent. The word 'performer' indicates that not all moving parts are totaly siezed, perhaps you can still turn the bars a little with aid of some stout chums.

'Has not been started in 2 years' - the bramble growing through the back wheel had fruit last summer so must now be a minimum of 2 years old.

As you probably noted this is quite a specialised language which has been nurtured and devloped by estate agents over many decades. I believe you can do a diploma course in 'talking bolox' these days.

Having had a Grammar School Education I learned one thing which helps - et caviat emptor (which I probably spelt wrong) which for those of you who who were less fortunate educationally means 'buyer beware' ;D
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes indeed, if it's a fast ship sohc.
Han Solo: Fast ship sohc? You've never heard of the Millennium Carbonated Falcon?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Should I have?
Han Solo: It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs!
