A bit lost on Dyna coils

Ok, now that i've figured out that polarity is not an issue...


My next thing I am wondering about is spark plug resistor boots.
Do I need to use these with Dyna 3ohm coils?
The wires I bought(7mm solid copper  core) are setup to go on the screw on bit that comes with new spark plugs.

I thought the resistor boots were a necessity.
??
Oh, I'm going to be running these on a '79 cb650.
I have read everythign i could think of to search on this subject.
Unfortunately I didn't come across anything that specifically states either what the resistor caps role in the ignition is, or whether you need resistor boots with Dyna coils.(or can use)

Is there some beinfit in using resistor boots?
Or is that just a necessary evil of stock coils on my bike?

You can use any wire or cap with those coils.

Resistance is NOT evil.
The coils will function with plug cap resistances of 0 to 10000 ohms.

I recommend at least 5000 ohms for two beneficial reasons.

1) It broadens the spark duration time to help the ignition burn.
2) It lessens the radiated emissions for reduced interference with other electrical/electronic devices, making you a nicer cohabitant on this planet.  Energy radiated is energy not used to ignite your burn cycle.

There is some interaction with the form by which the coils are triggered; points, points eliminator transistor, or active coil pulser.  You don't say which you are using.

You are right, resistance is not evil,  resistance is futilel... :)
You will be assimilated.


Uhhh..... not to sure as to what the proper name is for the triggering device on my bike.
Definately not points.
My bike is stock as far as the triggering device.
It looks similar to a dynaS.
