lacquer paint?
« on: March 31, 2007, 12:47:54 PM »
I've heard that Lacquer paint is not common anymore. I've found quarts of laquer at a local Advance Auto chain for $30 Red,Blue, and Black. Seems like a deal for red paint.
Is laquer a good paint?
Will it apply to a DTM epoxy primer? :)

It will apply over the epoxy primer.

Draw back is its more work than basecoat/clearcoat Requiring multiple coats and lots of elbow grease to get the same depth/shine.

I picked up a gallon of red base coat for $9 the other day. I'd shop around at the paint dealers and specifically watch for the mismatched stuff if your not set on a particular color.

If you are set on a particular color the basecoats are running about $20 a pint. Which will paint the whole bike more or less.
Factor in the cost of clear. Good thing is...the clear works with all the base colors.

I talk a little about the 350 I just painted here : http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=19990.0

Good luck.
