Turn signal lights
« on: October 26, 2025, 09:22:04 PM »
For a 1977 honda cb550f  I am looking to buy  some new lights.  The book says that it takes an A4527 ,  but i don't  see them anywhere.  Any thoughts.

Bulbs depend on if you have front running lights(US requirement) if not standard 21 watt single contact if yes 21/5 watt stop tail bulb

Light baulb
So I went down and found some 21/5 watt or 1157ll bulbs at autozone.  Came home to install and they still didn't  fit.  I tried everything to push the light in to no avail.  I actually tore up one Light just fighting with it.
What do I do now?

Silly question but are you sure it needs the 21/5

Light bulbs

I don't  know maybe I need the 21 watt  bulbs.  I only see one contact in there.

Lite bulbs

I finally  got them in and they work great. 21 watts in the back and 21/5 watts in the front.  Thanks all for help.

Be careful wrestling light bulbs, they can break and do nasty things to your fingers.

If you are ok with replacing your blink relay to a solid state one you will have a lot more bulbs to choose from. No need for 21/5 to get the relay working.

I recently did it on my path to LED bulbs (panel indicators as well).

Really small halogen light baulbs.

I went on Amazon to purchase  my halogen ligt baulbs and when they eventually came they were little tinny baulbs.  How would you ever put them on a 1977 honda cb550f?

Take a look at #1034 lamps for the dual-filament type instead of the #1157. The #1157 draws nearly 50% more current (or 100% more if it was made in China) on the bright filament, and 25%-50% more power on the lesser one (again, Chinese bulbs, every single one I've tested, drawing more than 2x specifications). I have actually "fixed" ailing CB350F/400F/500/550 bikes' "electrical troubles" before by doing nothing more than removing the Chinese-made turn signal bulbs and taillight lamps and installing Stanley bulbs (from Honda).

Even more of a tip: headlights. Watch the wattage rating of the bulbs, use something equal or less than OEM for best results today. Unless you're planning on lots of night riding in the black countryside, a 35w/35w H4 bulb (and lens) works fine for these bikes, especially the ones smaller than the 750.

A switch to all LED seems like a good idea to limit current draw. We don't have any "smart" features that will complain about blown bulbs if they are led"s.

That's where I'm headed...PeWe has done lots of testing with different LED headlights, I'm looking to his experience for my upcoming CB350F build's lighting. This bike has an alternator with enough power to make a yellow-ish 35w/35w H4 beam, and that's about all, tiny!

Replacd all 2 element turn signal and break light

Now, I want to replace the singal element light i.e. the rear lights.  I don't  know if there's any special lights for the indicator lights i.e dash board lights.
