Here's my problem. I changed my front brakes, and now they're squeaking like I have mice jammed instead of caliper pistons.
When I first got the bike, it had old brake pads. They squeaked. It stopped squeaking last fall. Most likely because the pads were covered in fork oil from my leaky forks.
My mechanic insisted the brake pads were still thick enough, though when I changed the pads, I realized that they were actually almost down to the metal backing.
After changing the pads, the brakes started squeaking again. I first thought that it was because the caliper pistons were dirty, or not lubricated enough, so last night I took them apart again and cleaned/lubricated everything thoroughly (don't worry, I didn't lubricate the pads themselves).
This morning I rode into work, and the pads are squeaking again. I should mention that my right disc has lots of grooves that I don't like, but they don't sell them new anymore anyways (original Honda parts were 370$ each!).
I checked the runout on the rotors & wheel rim, and it seemed well within spec. Same with the rotor thickness. The grooves are a big concern, but I don't know what I can do about them.
Do you think the grooves are causing the squeaking? Should I just wait a while and see it the noise goes away (it seemed to continue with the old pads)?
Any other ideas?
