IDing a yammie xs650 by paint color scheme
« on: May 02, 2007, 12:35:04 am »
Is there an online site that enables a person to ID a Yamaha XS650 by its color scheme? I am looking at a used and abused one here that the guy wants only $50 for, but for the life of me I can't find a manufacture date anywhere on the frame. On the yoke of the frame where it should be it is all faded. Is there supposed to be a date or serial #s on the engine anywhere? I am just not familiar with Yammies.

By the way, the tank is blue and white striped. I wil try and post a pic later.

For $50 who cares?  I think they're pretty much all the same.  What size rear wheel?  Later models had 16" rears.  I don't know much about them (I do have a 1972 frame w/ 1977 engine but am just starting to work on it).

        Hey Greg,

I don't remember just where it is but at 650motorcycles.com , there is a lot of info and a lot of different styles of bikes there to get ideas from too. There are also downloadable manuals, wiring diagrams and I. D. Info. If I can get the time, I'll find what there is and post it later today.
                                                        Later on, Bill :) ;)
