Greetings all,

I have been working on my beast for a while and have ran into an issue where the front brakes will pump up and lock, the only way i can unlock them is to use the bleeders to releave some of the pressure. Once i do that it will be fine for a couple of days then it will lock again. I have concluded that it's the Master Brake Cylinder return thats cloggged. Reading on here i have found numerous posts relating to this and quite a few tips on how to get the circlip out. The thing that i have found now is that i can't find a kit to rebuild the cylinder i have. Instead of the round cylinder i have seen at more than one site i have one that is flat on the top with 2 screws holding the top on and it has a sight glass to show the level of fluid. Did some PO take off the original one and put one from another 750 on? or is this a case of there were 2 possible for this bike and i have the one that is rare?

Don't own one, but found this. Sounds like what you are describing is the stock M/C for the F2.

Mark, the pdf is for a later model.  The 77 and 78 F's have a round mc with a screw on cap.

Thanks all, looks like the PO did put on a different MC onto this bike. Now for the fun of trying to get a rebuild kit for it

I have a '77K and a '78F model and both have different MC's.  I rebuilt the F-model and noticed the old cylinder had quite a bit of crud built-up around a kind of reed-valve that I guess is how the fluid gets back in to the reservoir when you let go of the lever.  Honda has rebuilt kits for about $38 for these bikes, seems reasonable when the aftermarket kits on Ebay go for around $30 plus shipping.

The circlip was a witch to remove, and it took me a while of grinding and shaping one of my circlip pliers to get them to go all the way into the MC well. 

On another note - CBR 600's MC are cheap and plentiful (I got one for under $20 on Ebay) and it works like a charm with my dual-disk Goldwing front-end.
