Has anyone heard of Vipex brand shocks?
« on: May 03, 2007, 09:24:23 AM »
I was checking out the ebay for some cb900f,cb1100F shocks to swap out on my ride and I saw this brand called vipex performance.  It's a relativly new company that sells these resevoir type race shocks for cb's for $200.  I want to know if anyone has heard of these guys?  Also there are some NOS Koni's in box going for $150 on ebay if you search cb1100cb shocks.

The fellowselling the Vipex shocks answered a few questions in an earlier thread but I don't remember what its title was.  I do remember discussing the Wilbers brand shocks in that thread so search for Wilbers or Vipex and it might come up. These shocks do not have any rebound adjustments so they seem to be a bit more about form than function and IMHO they are too long for the typcial SOHC application.  YSS offers some very nice shocks that are decently priced and they even have some resevoir shocks in their economy line that look similar to the Vipexs. . . .NOS Konis may be a good find or a total waste of money.  Many 70s/80s konis had problems with some of their internal bits.  Plastic/rubber parts inside pretty much disolved over time and completely gum up the internal oil passages.   Whether the shock was in use or sitting on a shelf doesn't really make a difference.  I wasted a good chunk of $ on an alloy set that was gunked up completely.  People say they are rebuildable but you need specialty tools to open them up and many of the internal parts are not available.  Koni still makes very nice car shocks but they are out of the motorcycle business now.  They weren't much help when I asked them about parts for rebuilding.  . . .

Any idea how long the Vipex shocks are?  I bought a set of CB900F shocks for my CB750 project... and I spent close to the price of those shocks on a clean used set :(

Koni sold off their motorcycle business to Ikon, based out of austrialia: http://www.adspl.com/ - they may be able to help you out.

I spoke a good deal with a fellow at Ikon when I was looking to rebuild my gunked up Konis.  They were the ones who talked about the disolving internals being common.  They had some parts but not everything. . . .
