Run a search using "halogen" and there are lots of posts on this. Generally speaking, a good move "for a brighter tomorrow"  ;)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I just went to advance auto and bought a 7 inch headlight part number H6024.  Works great, and costs under $10.

JC Whitney sells an H4 Halogen upgrade kit for $20. It features a replacable bulb and accepts the stock wiring harness. I got one and I love it! ;D

bulbs are easy to replace, but take care with the wattage. the old k2 runs a 75/55w, but that is the limit for it. 100w was too much for the electrics, let alone the reflector.too hot. the problem in old bikes is the general condition of the harness, with connections the main faults. careful dressing of the bullet connectors with fine wet & dry paper- all mating surfaces- will help you will find the biggest gain for least $$$ here. protect the connectios from corossion. tape stops electrical contact, not moisture. spray on lanolin is the best protcector i've seen so far for waterproofing electrics in a motorcycle application. it is made from wool grease, a sorta kiwi k.y.  it works for many things. ask a kiwi.
high wattage equals high load, and may not leave enough to charge the battery, if you use the headlight a lot. \

JBailey....which H6024 did you buy from Advance Auto? The Sylvania H6024 comes in 4 configurations based on wattage output. Then there are several other brands at triple the cost. Thanks. Dr. Mark

I'm running Hella fixtures on both 750's with PIAA Extreme White Plus H4 bulbs.  Very bright and the charging system of both bikes handles the lights with no problems.  Paid around $30 or so for each fixture.  I got the Hellas from this place:

I look at it this way. Cars have 2 - 4 lights. We have a big fat 1 light. Oh ah. Upping our wattage may not be completely legal but again we only have 1 light and what about the new HID lights that could blind a blind person. If you are concerned about your charging system, swap the signal lights and tail for LED bulbs. Uses about 1/10 the power. Also there is a section here that shows you how to juice up your regulator a bit.

I just bought the standard H6024.  It is brighter than the original, which I still have.  I just checked the sylvania website and see they make a few that are rated at 65w.  Those should work.  It's all a matter of how much you ride at night and how much you want to spend.  I only ride at night when I accidently don't make it home before dark.
