Mounting a pair of engine guards.
« on: May 07, 2007, 10:06:29 PM »
I just bought a pair of crash guards for my 1977 cb750k, and they mount to the long 12.5 inch bolt that goes all the way across under the engine, and then to the top of the triangle of bolts on the front down bars. The problem is that the the mounts are about 1/4 inch thick, and the cross bolt isn't long to accomodate them and still be able to start the nut on the end. So in essence, I need a 13 to 13.5 inch cross bolt. I found someone online who can supply such a bolt, but I need the dimensions of the bolt, i.e. the thread pattern and how many mm wide it is. I can't seem to find this info anywhere. Can one of you folks help me? Maybe you have another idea on how to mount these. Maybe I could get  drill press and cut the the hole larger in the bracket, but not all the way through. Say, measure the diameter of the head bolt and drill halfway into the hole so the nut and head bolt recess into the bracket. HELP!!!!! Thanks, Mike
