1971 cb125 question on cam
« on: May 15, 2007, 04:40:38 PM »
We are trying to rebuild a 1971 cb125 motor to go into our
SL175...
At this point we hhave managed to remove the poiints cover,
advance assembly, breakers ,but can't figure out how to
take the breaker plate off.

It is smaller in inside diameter than the outside of the camshaft
bolt, so.....we can't get the camshaft off.

Ok, who's the genius out there?
peace,
michel

haven't pulled one of them apart in a long long time, doesn't the bolt on the end of the camshaft hold on the advance unit, remove this and the breaker plate should come off after removal of the two locating screws ?

Hey Scunny,
hmmmm. I did pull the bolt, and it holds the front of the advancer unit on,
but the back of it stays on.
I'll take a picture

Back of the advancer should be located with a small peg DONT LOOSE IT!! and is a tight fit on the shaft

Was it put together right?
I seem to remember the advance mechanism is behind the points plate.
remove center bolt, remove points plate, pull off ATD, drop pin into housing, fish out with magnet ;D

Michel, like the guys said remove the bolt, that will allow the points cam to be removed.
The back part will be pegged onto the cam, the same as it is pegged to the crank on the 750s.
It should just prise off.
What year is the motor and how many speeds does it have. (gears) ?

Ok, will try again today IF
son decides to work with me on it.
My policy is: I will help you with rebuilding the bikes, but you have to be there.
Hopefully that way the kids learn to do it themselves.

year = 1976 motor from a cb125s that was vandalized.
gears = I Think it has 5 speeds, (it's been awhile)

Ah, the plot thickens  ;D you have now added a S after the CB125 (CB125s) This would make it a single cylinder motor.

Will it fit without making up engine plates and what about rear chain alignment ?
