Author Topic: Review : Slipstreamer S-06 Universal Windshield on my 1978 CB 750 K (Read 10340 times)

ive been planning a 800-1000 mile round trip to the smokies and back to Kentucky on my '78 CB750K which I purchased over the winter .. its not a winter project anymore and it seems be to running great .. I did a 200 mile test ride last weekend and have decided to take the old dog the smokies this coming weekend .. i thought it would be a good idea to install a cheap universal windshield for some protection for my long trips ..

so I purchased the Slipstreamer S-06 Spitfire Windshield from MAW online for $45.95 and just installed it today. The installation instructions were good and installation was pretty easy ..

After some test riding on the beautiful backroads around Lexington, KY and after stopping and adjusting the adjustable windshield at a few different angles, I finally seem to have found the best position for me ( 5' 8" and 170 lbs). I have the shield set at the maximum slope angle before the screen touches the speedo and rpm guages (see pictures below) .. at about 70 -75 mph it is very quiet and surprisingly no buffeting at all .. the clean air seems to be flowing just above my helmet .. i guess the small shield is sufficient for my shorter height .. another good feature is that the shield can be removed in less than 10 seconds .. the handllebar mounts remain on the handlebar ..

looks quite good...
are you sitting normally at 70-75mph or leaning over the tank a bit towards the screen..

. Can you keep me informed. Every year being in the wind is less comfortable.

im sitting upright in the normal position .. i am myself surprised the air is cleanly going over my helmet .. i probably need to ride a lot more miles to come to a more definite conclusion .. need to test it in windy conditions as well .. wonder how much it would protect me when riding in heavy rain .. however, i miss the wind hitting you in the chest feel at lower speeds so i would probably use the shield on long trips only ..

i might post a long term review after my smokies trip ... cheers ..

Thanks for posting this. I have a 78 K model, and it's nice to see what your impressions are (esp. since I'm just an inch shorter than you).

That looks really sharp, especially from the side profile--fits just right. I'm an inch taller than you but I have the clubman bars. Over the weekend we had some relatively gusty winds and I had to tuck on the highway (I like a little wind in the chest too, but not that much!).

Thanks for the information. That is the exact windshield that I have been considering for my K7. It looks good. Although, I am right at 6 feet tall so I wonder if I would need a slightly larger one. Please keep us up to date after your long trip.

there seem to be a few who would like to try out a winshield on occasionally so i thought a review would be a good idea .. a windshield that works is a very complicated issue and what works for one might not for someone else .. if it works out thats great .. but if it doesnt you can always resell the shield as its relatively not as expensive as the other ones out there .. cheers ..

I agree, I am sure that it willl work for me since we are the same size. I think I will go a and get one. Thanks for the tip and the source of supply.

I bought a National Cycle deflector sheild for about $80.00 for my F2. It is very similar to your slipstreamer. I couldn't believe the difference it made, and would recommend it to anyone.

IndianR, thank you very much for your review of the S-06 and pics. My wife will be thrilled when the box arrives from MAW with something else I bought for the motorcycle. I didn't know of MAW...the price is great. I have been in the market for an unobtrusive windshield, and was was hoping I could find one that would fit the Honda well. I'd like to start commuting on this bike, but chilly mornings persist in Michigan. I am 5'11" and 187lb, and my bike is a 550. I'm going to try the "all the way back" position like in your pics first, then will play with the placement til I get it the way I like.

From lexington ky as well. I have a cb500 and can tell you that there should be a signifigant difference with the sheild. The mountian roads in SE KY get pretty windy as well. It doesn't look half bad on the bike either. Good luck

big blue .. im not sure how i missed you post in another thread a while back .. good to know we have a few CB riders in and around the Lexington, Kentucky area .. Im new to Lexington, Ky (year old) ... But lets meet up for a ride sometime .. I'm going to the smokies this weekend .. leave on sat. stay over night and come back on sunday ..and in the meanwhile try to ride on country roads all the way down there .. it will be the first long ride test on my cb 750 which i resurrected over the winter ...

update: took a 700 mile ride to the smokies .. absolutely comfortable with this windshield .. i even hit the interstate I 75 for a a few miles to test the windshield and it worked great for me .. of course at higher speeds you get more air hitting you but the air was clean and hit the upper part of my helmet and was clean air .. i wore ear plugs and it was quiet as a whistle ..

i already posted a review of the windshield after my long test ride .. it is 3 posts above this one .. as for the spitfire logo it looks like it can be scraped off easily but i havent tried ..

Regarding removing decals on Slipstreamer windscreens I got this response:

"Yes......It is a vinyl decal. Just heat it up with a blow dryer and peel it right off. If glue residue remains, just clean with ANY plastic cleaner/polish, or a very little dab of rubbing alcohol will remove it. However, you will need to thoroughly clean the alcohol off with water to make sure all alcohol is removed from the glass."

i just checked .. the decal is easy to remove with your finger nails .. guess u can use some rubbing alcohol to get of the glue residue off .. doesnt seem to be a big deal at all ..

I bought a Slipstreamer Viper and quite like it. It wobbles a little so I wrote them an email. I got a quick response offering to send me some new washers to adjust the fit of the barrels to the windshield. Haven't tried the solution yet; but I liked the prompt, attentive response from Mr. Eggerichs.

Keep us posted on that SS-10 as it's real close to the S-06 save a wee wider... I was wondering how it might hold against additional force. Sure would like to see some pics!

Put the new, thinner rubber washers on that came in the mail today. 95% relieves the wobble. Slipstream's response and support were very quick.

Here's all I can do for pics till I get my bike back on the road (waiting for sprockets and chain).
