Topic: Seating New Fork Seals 78 750K

When I bought the bike, the front seals starting leaking. It was a few years ago and i was multitasking project. I bought some No Leak seals and yeah they leak ok. I ordered some new Honda seals. I went back through my Honda Shop Manual to referesh my memory. They show a tool for pushing/banging the seal down. Looks like a piece of pipe. What have you guys used?

Find the correct diameter of plastic (ABS) drain pipe and have at it. Or a big enough socket.

I just did mine, and used a pvc pipe fitting as recommended here:

I used the same type of PVC adapter, but mine came from Lowe's and had to be trimmed via Dremel to get the seal in far enough to allow the snap-ring to go back in.  I got the idea from salocal, too.

Used my fingers. I dont remember having an issue getting them in, just in getting the fork caps back on after filling oil!
After storage for a few years, they leaked slightly but use has made them seal again.

I used a big old socket I had laying around worked perfectly!

last question, do you bang them down and how far, or do you just push them down till you can get the circlip on.

far enough to get circlip on is what I did.  I think there is a shoulder that the seal bottoms out on anyway.

Thanks so much for all the helpful tips!  This is my first time replacing fork seals, so I'm a bit apprehensive (meaning I'd rather do my homework first and at least try to get it right before doing it again). 

Finally, will any type of circlip pliers work?

the ones I used were real cheapies, but worked ok

Actually I turned out using my fingers first and then the old seal as a driver with a small dowel and hammer to lightly seat it. The most important thing is polish the forks, really polish them good. The circlip can be pushed in with your fingers, they are really just a light guage  round spring.
