Question for clip-on owners... (switchblock wire routing)
« on: May 18, 2007, 07:52:15 AM »
...or anyone else that has dealt with the same issue...

My bike has handlebar switchblocks where the wires are routed through the handlebars to the headlight bucket.  I'm unsure if all CB750's are like this or not, but I'm installing Tommaselli clip-ons and there are no holes in the bars to route the wires.  I really didn't want to drill holes into what I assume is probably already a weak material, so at this time, I don't really have a problem running the wires outside of the handlebars, but I was wondering how to get the wires out of the switchblocks.  I'm sure I can find a way, but I was curious as to how others have dealt with this issue (even if you did drill holes in the bars).

I tried doing a search, but didn't have any luck with this particular subject.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I opened the pods and gathered the wires into as small a diameter profile possible, then slid long pieces of heat shrink tubing over the wires with a 1/2 inch overlap. once that was done, I used my dremel to cut an opening, for them to exit the pod, and routed the wires either above or below, based on which half of the pod I cut my opening out of.

When I put my clubans on, (and when I did them to my old 550) I just drilled a hole in the bottom of the control housings and ran the wires out of there. Wrap them with tape or shrink wrap and you would be surprised how unnoticeable it is. Particularly with clip ons as you are only going 3-4 inches and they dissapear behind the headlight. I think the control housings had moisture drain holes that I just opened up enough to fit the wires thru, but I could be wrong its been a year since I did them. Good luck

Just relocate your neutral light and starter button to your headlite bucket and ditch all your other switches --->

Looks nice and clean  ;D

Thanks guys.  I'll try to figure something out early next week.

PT, I would love to go w/ the clean look, but I'll eventually run turn signals and while I rarely if ever use the horn and don't think it is really going to save me, it can't hurt.
