How much is a 1981 CBX with 58000 kms, in decent shape, ready to ride, worth?

How original is it? How are the consumables (tyres, chain/sprockets, battery, fork seals etc)? Original paint, exhaust, all the plastic there etc?

I don't know any specifics. Lets say it's all "medium".

I went on line last week looking for prices, but I couldn't come up with anything on Ebay or on the CBX web sites either/

These come up fairly regularly in the UK, but only the "Z" model (ie naked, twin shock) are desireable.

£5000 for a good one.  £2000 for a rider.  Don't bother with anything that has been screwed around with or "needs engine work" - big $

That's right Steve, the 1979 model with twin rear shocks is the most desireable CBX, but the later models were probably better bikes, so it depends on whether you want an investment, or a "rider".

Personally, I always thought the CBX was a silly bike, fragile engine, wider than Michael Moore's ass, soggy suspension, and a nightmare to tune and service.

In a straight line it was pretty quick, (but not much faster than any other 1000cc+ Jap sports bike of the era) and a Harley Electra Glide was more probably stable in corners. The candy red bike was a pretty thing though, for sure.

There was a lovely mint black one at Brooklands Honda Owners Club day last summer. We never had that colour here - it was a US import.

I know what you mean about "better bikes", but if you want an anonymous tourer, buy a blackbird! (I nearly did but saw the light and bought a Triumph Sprint instead!).

If you want a 70's icon, buy a CBX1000Z or a Z1 (or a CB750 of course!)

Well Steve, I almost bought a Kawasaki ZZR1100 recently with a Hindle pipe, Muzzy engine mods and flat slide carbs. I actually took it for two test rides (I really was that serious) but I ended up buying my beautiful K0 instead, and in 20/20 hindsight, I still think I made the right decision.

The rumour was that the Kawa had beaten the magic "double ton", (in both MPH and BHP) and when I rode it, it was insanely fast, (but very "rideable" at sensible speeds too) and I would have lost my license (or worse) very quickly, I'm getting older, but sadly, no wiser, ha ha!

Anyway, the BMW K1100LT is a much more sensible fast tourer, and with a heap of CB750's and a couple of Suzuki GS1000S's in the garage, I'm all "Icon-ed" out, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.

Sun honda has a couple in the upstairs classic bike display.   81's I think.   They have then listed as "offroad/street".

What's the CBX1000Z??? If I were to buy anything else it would be a KZ1100R / 1000R or I would also love a Magna V65. But none are more practical than a SOHC750.

No. The one I'm thinking of is in Nanaimo. In a basement. Hasn't been run in years, but it's "not for sale"

God what a b**ch of an engine to buid an service! Hours to do the shims and $$$$ for the rocker gasket PLUS a tube of Evo-Stick.
Also the carbs are a pain unless the bike is used regularly

           I can imagine that the CBX would be pretty cool to ride but, to keep it tuned might be a pain. A buddy has one and has to partially disassemble the bike and drop the motor down, just to pull the carbs off. IF I had one, I'd get it in good tune and run it regularly to attempt to keep it in shape.
