New from Portland OR
« on: May 23, 2007, 11:31:31 AM »
I recently acquired a 1977 Honda CB750K and have begun to restore it to a reliable running condition. I am so glad to find this website and am so estastic about the enthusiasm for these old bikes, I had a '82 back in '88 and loved it then. I had no idea then the difference between the DOHC and the SOHC, but am glad to know I can check the valves myself on the SOHC. Well I have parts shipping to me soon and am waiting to get it running smoother and stronger. I just got plates on the bike yesterday, it had not been registered since 1985 and not run period in the last 5 years until recently. It has 22k miles on it. Thanks for this site and look forward to any information I can get about this bike. Thanks!

What I like about this forum so far, is people are here to help. After reading some threads, I like the fact that mechanically minded people don't just recommend people take it to the local mechanic when they have a problem, they give meaningful advise.

These bikes are old, man!!!! The shops are full of young kids working on and selling new bikes. They mainly don't know these old bikes and if you are lucky enough to find an old timer that knows these bikes inside & out...you're lucky. The best bet is if you really love the old stuff......get familiar with it and do the work(or most of it)yourself.

New pics of my bilke will be out later, I just installed a fresh set of points and condensors when I came home from work today, I didn't know it but I had one set of point that had the nylon rubbing block almost all the way worn down, needless to say its running better. I get the carb rebuilding kits later and that will be next!

Welcome. We look forward to the pics.

Did you apply some points grease to the cam after installing the new points? Lack of it by the PO probably contributed to the wear you found.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
