Polishing up my carbs!
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:49:10 AM »
So since I am having to wait until my friend gets his shop finished to begin on my 550 restoration/ Cafe project and it has been eating at me since I found out that the rings were bad, I figured I would occupy myself with some polishing.  Began with an hour soak in Simple Green then scrubbed then with some scotchbrite.  Moved everything over to my Dremel and went to town with a stainless wire wheel to get in all the nook and cracks.  I then hit them up with 300 then 400 grit sand paper followed by some steel wool.  Finally I ended the day at my polishing wheel and polished to a mirror shine.

Looks great... makes all the difference in the world.
You can also polish those brass bits as well....drain plugs & nuts/caps on the sliders for some
extra bling....
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I already did that. Now, start polishing the tops of all your bolts.

Did you use the wheels to polish your toe nails too?  ;D ;D

Nice work. I really never cared much about polishing the carbs. They are not much visible after all; you can't clean them to keep the polish. A nice bright on the fenders, engine cases or fork bottoms catch more views.

Yeah everything else is next, this just gave me something to do while I am waiting and what not, so i thought I would post the results.  The bowls actually came out more shiny than I wanted so I resanded and went back over them with steel wool for the satin look,  I'll post that when I get them finished.

looks sweet. but wouldn't want to do on my bike. wouldn't match the oil leaks, break fluid leaks, and flat black everything  ;D
But thence came the Great Schism, when the two like tribes diverged, and the Bobbers did take the Road to Cruiserdom and the Cafe Racers did ride to Sportbikedom and they did pollute the lands along their paths with their abominable spawn of Choppers, Stuntaz and like manner of unholy douchebaggery
