ebay rant
« on: May 30, 2007, 07:14:10 PM »
I know this is on here over and over, but I want one of my own.

I bought a steering damper for my cafe project. According to the listing description it is "PERFECT" . My description of the product is somewhat different. I would say it has a scar on the shaft, leaks fluid and has air in the fluid causing dead spots. Those dead spots render it useless for its intended purpose. I am pissed. thank you all for listening.

Did you ask for a refund?

Been there done that a few too many times myself lately - got a cheap dririder jacket - in PERFECT condition - seller did not let me know or advertise the fact there was a noticeable large rip in the back of it and it had the shoulder pads scraped on it where he had fallen off and the jacket had been down the road..I got a bit #$%*ty with him, because he never apologised, a sorry may have left me feeling a tiny bit better.

Contact the seller and ask for a refund or at least some money back and then mention you may need to pursue a wrongly described ebay item with ebay - set up a dispute - I know it takes time but at least you get some satisfaction with negative feedback with some nice comment if you can....and ebay may ban them for a month or so......

If you paid with paypal you have much more recourse than if you used other methods.

.........and stand a very good chance of getting resolution. But do your best to deal with the seller first.

I gave him about 2 hours to respond in a reasonable manner. His first email basically said it was perfect and I did not know what I was talking about. he also said he would only refund puprchase price. This is one of those guys that charges mostly shipping and a small fee for the product. I have since filed with pay pal. he then responded via email that he would refund only after " seeing it for himself". To be honest after his first e-mail I am a bit leery to simply return it to him. If he shipped it as it is, he eiher has no idea what is good or bad, or he is trying to get one over on me. I think at this point I would prefer a refund prior to shipping.

get a refund - at least the purchase price comes back

then keep the item and tell him it got lost in the mail- you still get screwed but at least the seller does not get to screw someone else... :)

Not to be insensitive here, but you can't be too surprised at the lack of business ethics from a seller who employs tactics like that.

gordon- your not hurting my feelings but thanks for being concerned  ;) . This tool wants to give me ten bucks back. The whole thing was 20 bucks and I have been pissed for 2 days and spent at least an hour screwing with this mess. I want to just say f it, but i can't. I have filed with pay pal and we will see how it goes. If he gets his 20 he is going to have to work a bit for it. :)

Glad to hear it! ;D  You never know with this crowd.  You'd think for a bunch of biker guys (and gals) we'd have thicker skin, but some of us always seem to be a little on the touchy side. ;)

Go after him and get your money back!  I'm with you, it doesn't matter if it's a small amount, it's the principle of it all.

Yeah, I agree in principle, but don't be surprised if a jerk like that thrives on taking advantage of people and thinks it is funny when they get pissed off.

Don't let it bother you too much, whatever you do.

Ditto!  It's all the more satisfying in the end if/when you get the result you were after and you never let the guy get under your skin.  It's a business transaction, so don't let it get to you on a personal level.

I am kind of over it already. Usually if I can get a nights sleep, I will rationalize it and realize that it does not really matter. To be honest I am only doing it now for my own amusement. ;)

the seller has a rating of three - if you open a dispute with ebay I think you will find that they ban him for a period of time.... I have had problems with sellers in the past who have little or no selling history on ebay - I try to avoid those now....it stops the PITA happening

but stir the bastard up and let him know that his description was not accurate and he misled you and any other potential buyer...
