Looking forward to the variety everyone has to offer.
Thanks!

Welcome. :) :) What's your particular interest in the eclectic bunch of motorcycles under the sohc umbrella? Do you have one now?

Yes sir, 73 CB750 K3. I have owned it for 2 or so years. It has been through several phases. When I first got it, it was slightly modded by the po. Club bars, sticky front brake, horrible mustang-style seat, bad electronics, pod filters, etc.

I trashed the club bars first, I have never been able to think of them in a positive manner. Hate how they look, too. Switched to some low-rise drag type bars, running them upside-down. Removed front and rear fenders, re-wired entire bike. Never could get the front brake to work worth a damn, so I just took it off.

Tank was clogged with rust, cleaned and sealed it with some POR-15 products (which works excellent BTW). Added a cafe-style seat from ebay. Shortened the seat by 8", re-glassed, and upholstered it.

At that point, I was satisfied enough to put about 5K miles on it. It was definitely more fun to ride it than to do any of the #$%* I really needed to be doing (get M license, replace the 35 year old sprockets, chain, and brake pads, etc).
With that in mind, I tore her apart about 6 months ago. I figured that I would make it "nice" before I was arrested or killed.

It's coming together slowly. I tend to think out every aspect of building a car, motorcycle, etc before just jumping into the project with no idea of what I want to accomplish. The current theme of the K3 is "cleaned". There's nothing I dislike more than cluttered, chromed-out, accesorized crap on wheels. I would like to smooth over all unused tabs, brackets, etc, and remove anything not essential to the basic operation of a scoot.
A few things I would like to accomplish:

-smoothed top triple tree
-no gauges
-clip on bars
-retrofit newer front disc and caliper
-minimal electronics
-21" front wheel
-different seat with leather upholstery

I know that this post is worthless without pics, but that just gives me an excuse to make a worthwhile build thread.

I also have a 71 Kawasaki H1 in pieces my Dad gave me. After looking it over, and taking into account the eccentric nature of the older 2 cycles, I will probably sell it.

I've been working on and riding scoots most of my life. Mostly from my Dad and his bucket-ass HD's. He was never mechanically inclined, so I did all the work for him. I had been wanting my own for a long time, but changed my mind after being endlessly bombarded by rich yuppies and their cool, shiny "motorcycles". Not to mention the whole OCC movement, with the intention to make and sell as much useless crap as people will allow them. Once my friend Chris picked up the K3, and told me he was gonna sell it, I began thinking nothing but old SOHC.

Thanks everyone for the inspiration!

I'm getting a ride together for this weekend in the C'ville area.  Check out the Events section and let me know if you're interested.
