Help with oil leak on a CB750K2
« on: April 06, 2005, 07:05:10 PM »
Hello, I bought a CB 750 K2 a few months ago, and I notice that once the engine gets hot, if I place the bike on it's side stand (not the center stand) it will sometimes leak oil from the screw I have circled in the picture below.  Sometimes it does not leak, othertimes it leaks quite dramatically.  Will a new gasket fix this?  Is this a common problem?

By the way, I love this forum!  Been using banditalley.com for all my suzuki bandit questions, and I was hoping a CB forum would pop up soon.  RIP Greenspun!   ;)

Thanks in advance for any replies!

just a thought, are you sure the oil is coming out of that screw hole or is it running down and dripping from there, either way a gasket I believe would cure your problem. good luck ,Fergie.

Yes, good point.  I really am not sure, I need to get under it while it's dribbling out oil and see.
Thanks!

I forgot where I read about this trick, but if you thuroughly clean and "dry" the area down there, then run the motor or ride it and when you get back blow some talc powder down there. It will stick to the oil and help trace the leak.

Interesting...  I found a gasket kit on ebay today, anyone know of any other website that would have a replacement gasket?
Here is one I found from bikebandit.com

Thanks again.  Forgot to ask.  From the picture above, would this be called a "Transmission Cover Gasket"?

Just get some gasket material and make one .  I made one for mine, works fine.
Take a piece of yhe old gasket w/ you to match yhe thickness, you can use a piece of
tubing sharpen one edge to use as a hole punch, or put it on a drill , worked well
when I made a new disc for my fuel petcock.

Thanks, actually, our Honda motorcycle dealer, was able to order me one for $10.  I figured that wasn't too bad, so I went that route.  Thanks to all who replied!
