#1 pipe coming lose at manafold
« on: June 19, 2007, 10:30:26 PM »
Hey, All.

The #1 pipe on my 4 into 1 is coming lose on my cb750k. Once tightened back up, she rattles lose again within 3 or 4 minutes of riding.

I don't think that locktite is an acceptable fix on something like this.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, how to fix it, etc.?

Thanks in advance. Anyone who's ever had an exhaust leak knows that it's obNOXIOUS!

PS: I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a set of nice 4 into 1 headers and a good can. Can someone let me know about good options / sources?

Thanks again.

Is your fitting the stud-type or the bolt-type?

Assume that it's coming lose as the threads in the cylinder head are knackered. If so, a helicoil is your best bet.

Thanks, Steve.

It's the stud type, and the screws seem to want to seat just fine when they're tightened.  It's funny; this problem came out of nowhere. I guess bikes and bike problems are just that way.

I'll see what I can do about getting  a hc in there.

Search for "helicoil" or "insert" on this site for loads of experience.

If you are handy, you can do it yourself quite easily.

Just to be clear, The manifolds are held on by studs, and the pipes are held on by clamps like these ones.
The clamps are fine, it's the studs that won't stay screwed in.

Helicoil looks like the answer. Should I just remove a stud, take it to the store and find a hc that will fit? I guess I need hole diameter, too.
