Topic: oil pump leak

Finally figured out where this oil is leaking from. The front cover on the oil pump. I've read in some other post that this seal cannot be purchased and the pump must be replaced. Are these pumps avaiable from Honda or aftermarket?

I just swapped mine cover from my 72 cb500 to my 78 cb550 worked like a champ. I have one out, I can match up for you to try. I didn't change out the pump. I don't see why you would need to.

Thats right Honda dont supply that "O" ring and the size quoted in the manual is wrong.You should be able to sorce an equivalent from a "hydraulic" parts supplier but you will probably have to buy 100 of them. WWW.davidsilverspares.co.uk did have some nos pumps a while back.

I'll find out tomorrow the 5th. I have some time in the day and will match it up. I think I have one on order through my dealer. I'm going to a place that has a great selection of o'rings.

I went to a local hydraulics part supplier and got a o-ring. It is slightly larger and quite a bit thicker than the one I pulled out of the pump. I installed the new one and put in some castrol 10w-40 motorcycle oil. After a 20 mins ride the oil light comes on at idle. I think this is because the o-ring is tooo thick and the pump will not build pressure. Would 20w-50 make a difference and am I harming the engine by running it. Where can I get a proper O-ring?

I got a # 19132 ace #. I'm pretty sure it was 1 7/8" O.D. I'll have to check the I.D. if you want. It look's to be pretty close. I went to 2 Ace stores and the biggest one carried was a 44mm. It looks to be a 45mm. It was wierd because the 2 Ace's didn't have the same seal. The second one I got seam's to be a little thicker and wasn't a #132. I can pick one up and ship it off to you tomorrow if you like. I was like .59 cent's and about .37 cents in shipping.

Today I went to a oring supplier I found in the phone book. The guy took one look at the o-ring and said "japanese machine?". Came back with a 44.6 mm oring. Fits perfectly and after a short test, the oil pump maintains pressure at idle, and no leaks. Charged me a $1 for two, very cool when you find the right guy who knows his stuff.

I have a leak somewhere as well. I have an pressure switch on order (in case the original has gone bad) a new gear shift shaft seal (was definitely bad), and an entire set of oil seals (just in case). I'm gonna pick up one of these o-rings as well. Hopefully that will do it.

I'm looking at the chart from RocketSeals and I see 44.5 and 44.7 mm - no 44.6. I'll check my source here in Seattle to see if they have that size. Anyone know the cross section size? Also, is 44.6 the ID or the OD?
