Topic: Emgo Pods on 550

I've got a 74 cb550 and I just got some emgo air pods.  They dont fit between  the carb and the frame on the outside carbs.  Has anyone made these work with this problem.  I dont know if I can put some angle tube and bring them out the side.  I want to stay with these pods, since I already paid for them.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

I know there was a special model(tiny) that I ordered for my 71 CB500 from crc.

It doesn't look like that link will take you to the page though so go to fuel system parts > air filters > pod filters.  It'll be the first one in the list.

The K&N pods that came on my 72 500 were just crammed in there crushing the element a little.  Make sure your carbs and rubbers are in as far as they'll go because there isn't much clearance even with the small ones.  When I put mine on, I didn't think they would go initially, but with a little massaging they went on and have about 1/4" or 3/8" clearance from the frame.

I got my Emgo pods to fit my 77 550F by putting the two outer ones on pieces of car radiator hose and piping I picked up at the local auto parts store and clamping everything down.  Not the cleanest looking thing, but so far it's worked without a problem.  Eventually I think I'll try to find some that actually fit.

I thought about using a 45 angle pvc pipe piece to bring the filters out the side but am not sure if the tank/seat/side covers will hit it.  Any more ideas?

Seems like adding extra length to the intakes on two of the carbs would cause those two cylinders to run differently than the others.  I don't know exactly how much of a difference it will make, but you should really have the intakes on all four carbs the same length.

Is there any way you could measure the pods that fit from top to the end of the rubber boot.  They seem to look real good.  Thanks

Just put the smaller pods on tonight.  They look great and actually fit.  And to top it off, I was finally ready to fire the old girl up for the first time in about 6 months .  Sounds great and seems to run good.  I still dont have my wheels done so it will be a few weeks untill I can ride her and see how much the pods and pipe did.  Thanks for all your help

Nnot yet.  I want to ride it first and see where its lagging.  I'll probably ove up to a 110 or 116
