Handgrip Upgrade
« on: July 07, 2005, 08:25:48 AM »
Hello everyone,

I recently bought a pair of grips for my bike of eBay but didn't get what I was looking for.  The image of the grips looked like the old school (excuse my language) “Titty Grips” and that was what I was looking for.  However, the ones I got were the solid rubber grips that only look like Titty grips.

What I was wondering was if any of you know of some comfortable grips that still have the old school look.  The only ones that I can think of is the titty grips so if you know where I can get some, let me know.  If you have a better suggestion, I would be interested too.

Thanks guys,

Matthew

I read this post earlier and had to restarin myself from responding...

I used padded grips from a Norton Commando in the 70's - they were very comfy.

Sorry, my mind wasn't in the gutter :) I was just wondering what they looked like - if they're comfortable I'll keep an eye out for them.  I am wondering how they got the name though...

I know this is an odd question but when I got my bike it had this grip on the throttle sleeve that was oddly "Squishy" the clutch side was stock.  After a year of bringing this bike back from the dead, I am starting to work on the details and I Like the "Titty Grips" (this is what the more mature riders call them, they get a kick out of it when the see it).  The picture is what I got off eBay but they were solid rubber yet this is exactly what the titty grips look like.

So that's what they are called. I just removed a set of these from my K0. Why? Because they weren't "correct," ha, ha. I replace them with stock grips. Fact of the matter is, mine were semi-soft and quite comfortable. Go figure.  :D

Yep. Thems the ones from the 70's Nortons. They were soft and very comfortable.  I loved 'em.

Well, they are kind of poofy and squishy...when you are stopped at a red light, they are fun to (excuse the creepyness) massage them.

Hi, I'm about to replace my disintegrating grips and was wondering if anyone had any brand names they could recommend.  I'm looking for that old school look and and comfortable feel.

These might be mutually exclusive.  ;)

JC Whitless has them:

Thats them!  Thanks!  Too bad I followed my normal pattern and installed the ones I had thinking that was the best I could get instead of waiting on someone to point me in the right direction.  1 step forward and 2 steps back...again. ::)

So now that I have the others on order, what is the best method for removing the ones I just glued on?

Ive been running those grips on my bike, like the ones on JCW ( Gran Turismo is what I've seen them called, but i like your name)... super squishy, and cheap.. Though after only a few months they are starting to fall apart... the rubber (plastic?) is a little too soft i think. I'd like to find some of the slid rubber kind that 'nashvegas' talked about earlier in the post. G

Another type of grip that has nice vintage style are these in the photo below. though Ive only found them for 1 inch bars... I'm not sure how loose they'd be on 7/8th's... $20 on http://www.bellacorse.com/bcc014.htm

The "titty" grips that are soft, squishy, pliable (stop that!) are available in Oz, mail order from Ryans Motorcycles $16 a pair.
I've used them for years.
Excuse me, the temperature is zero-time for a ride with the ......new HEATED GRIPS!

When u get them stick the new ones on with....hairspray! Its a VERY mild glue, after all. Make sure your bars are TOTALLY clean first. Oh, and the best type of grips are whatever type are exactly the right size for you to nestle in the palm of your hand with your ring and little fingers while the first two "feather" the lever.
