If you have dualdisks up front, I would try to find a way to fit some thinner rotors. A newer rotor that's not stainless steel and perforated will save you a few pounds and improve braking at the same time.


Phenolic brake pistons must be a lot lighter than the stock steel ones right? I have aluminium brakepistons in my 550. They're much lighter than the stock steel ones as well and probably cheaper than Phenolic. I paid 25 Euro for one recently.

Teflon brakelines? (Or maybe you already have stainless steel....)

The guy I buy my parts from is experimenting with teflonlines made out off one piece instead of the separate upper and lower line.
This means you'll have to find a way to make the brakelight work with a mechanical switch in the lever (like your Guzzi's), but it's probably lighter.
He said it improves braking as the brakefluid doesn't have to be forced trough the extra banjo's and brakeswitch.

Loops, the 400F head would be difficult to feed externally because of the two oil pipes that supply the lubrication for the cam. They fit directly into the oil passage so I think it would be dangerous to attempt.



That's what I thought. I've been trying to think of a way around this cause I was thinking of making a Yosh motor and starting my own thread with the build for other 400f owners.

I've read online, that when putting in stiffer springs and a hot cam, you want more oil flow. But I don't have a solution for this.

What about a magneto?  Then you can ditch the battery.

Pete2, a magneto would probably weigh as much as a small battery and then it has to be driven, consuming power.

Turbo, I'm not that familier with the 500s but with the 750 you can remove all the starter gear, the generator and the end of the crank were it was all located.

Another quick tip if you hadn't allready thought of it, run as thin a chain as posible along with thiner sprockets. Make sure it is a good quality race chain with no O or X rings. (the size modern day 250s use).

I'd keep the kickstart. It may save a few pounds but after pushing my 350 race bike to get it started go to be a real pain (all over) so I kept it on my 550 bike.  For me a couple pounds off my fat ass would be much better served.  Maybe people would stop calling me a Teletubby.

We still use boyer with a small battery and can't see us changing as it is reliable. Does the gsx spindle fit straight in? We use lightweight alloy clipons which make a big differenceand a light fairin too.

Chimay went well,I hadn't raced since October so was a little nervous too say the least. I qualified 12th out of 40 with a lap near a second quicker than last year. Finished both races in 9th with a lap 1.4 seconds faster than 06 but I finished 5th then.We all enjoyed the racing and intend to do the Belgium classic championship next year with both the 750 and 500. Not raced the 750 yet as we only got it running a week ago. CR Sam cam to Croft circuit last Saturday and gave his approval.

Keep up the good work and above all enjoy the racing.

I can confirm that Peter C has got a real nice pair of racing 4s. I realy enjoyed my day out with Pete but I was a bit miffed off when I saw the carbs on his 750. >:( >:( >:( the stuffy sod has only got himself a set of origional CR31s (bar steward  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D)
Well done Pete, let me know when the big girl is up and running, might have another trip East.  ;)
