Motorcyclist loses leg but drives on
An unbelievable accident happened in Japan: on Monday, a motorcycle driver drove at least two kilometers before realizing he was missing a leg, according to the Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbum on Tuesday.
A 54-year old man lost his leg approximately 10 cm below the knee. The lower portion of the leg was probably ripped off when he grazed rails alongside the highway. It was only when he was going through a curve that he noticed he was missing something.
Another motorcyclist who was driving with the man turned back and found the missing leg, according to police. The man and his leg were brought to hospital. Experts think that the enormous amount of pain probably numbed the man to the extent that he did not feel the amputation directly.

Yesterday I watched a kid from a bodyshop down the street take an unlicensed scooter/moped/something for a ride down the street and back wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and no helmet. He was doing a pretty good speed when he passed in front of me, then it all went bad. The bike did a couple of flops side-to-side and he did a cartwheel before scraping to a stop. I started walking over to see if he was OK but he jumped up, ran to the bike, hopped on, and rode off back to his shop. I think he might have noticed a missing leg, but he had to have a few bruises and road rashes. After a crash you're so pumped with adrenaline all common sense usually disappears. On my worst get-off I thought I was OK but my collarbone, presumably cracked, let go when I tried to pick the bike up. I had to sit down then, and pretty soon I noticed the sizeable area where I used to have skin. I have a big lump in my collarbone to remind me to sit down and relax after an exciting event like that, adrenaline numbs pain for a few seconds and you have to wait a while before you can feel the hurt bits.

That is OK as long as you don't want to change gear or use the footbrake. THEN YOU NOTICE.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm sorry, you don't get to far on a motorcycle with one leg.

I'm assumed it was his right Leg. You would need to shift more often then brake. I was in an accident when I was 18 and had 1/4 of my face torn off, it took me 5 minutes before I knew it. Someone had to tell me. Adrenalin is a wonderful thing.

while i was at MMI... (yes, similar to bandcamp but not really  :P )  a buddy rode a stretched kawi of some sort, i can't remember.  it was built for the drags and also the scapegoat for his accident.

he hauled a$$ out of school one day and onto the freeway on ramp.  he lost control and slid himself and the bike into a chainlink fence.  when i came up to him his right foot was next to his right knee.  probably one of the, if not THE, most gruesome thing i've seen in my life.

before we graduated he was back in class.  he attended classes w/ his everyday lower leg and foot.  he also had a running foot and a carbon fiber foot made especially for riding!
