Just was thinking today and realized that I didn't remember the dates my parents were born.

My Mom was born Sept 19, 1927 and would have been 81 this coming Sept.

My Dad was born July 16, 1925 and will be 83 next month

They were married June 17, 1944 and would have been married for 64 years this month.

I'm embarrassed to say that for several years, I wasn't sure about the dates and number of years. :-[  I should have gotten this straight in my head long ago. Now that I've finally it straight once again (I've done this several times) maybe I can finally keep it straight. ;)

Guess I'm just kinda in a slump because of the time of year and all. I'm just catching myself, all of a sudden, reliving some old times that involved my Mom & Dad. Gonna come up with something special for my Dad and I to do together for his birthday. ;) once I get past July and then Sept (my Mom's birth month), I'll be able to better consentrate on other things.

                                   Take care all, Bill ;)

I've got three brothers and have to scratch my head a bit to remember the years they were born in. I can always remember the date...... but the year  :D

I must get this from my father. One day he pulls out his wallet and a business card falls out with all our (his sons) names on it and our birth dates. Thing is, he had all the right dates....... but they were beside the wrong names  ;D Not that he needed the card, he's never forgotten a birthday. He just kept it for those "brain fart" moments we all have from time to time.

Take care Billy

Just called my Dad to wish him a "Happy Father's Day" and found out that he IS STRONGLY considering selling out, having my brother evicted and then moving up in this area. He also went on to say that he is working on putting EVERYTHING in HIS & MY name only in a way that will be firmed up and that he would be needing me to come down to put it in place. Man, I am so elated! ;) At the end of our conversation, I told him that I try to call every couple of days (when I can't get down there much) to try to give him whatever uplift I can and he said, "It Does, Each And Everyone". (I need a "smiley that shows the feeling I got, when he said that") I'll tell ya, some of those phone calls make me wish I didn't have to hang up and a number of them make me wish I could just be there. You'll have to excuse me, I think I'm getting a mixture of emotion along with some of the mixed feelings that I've heard a man can g through when they get up in their 60's. SO, I'm gonna go now and try to regain my composure.

BTW, I Hope All You Fathers Have A Wonderful Fathers Day!

Hey Tim, are you any relation to "Tim The Tool Man Taylor? ;D  Gotcha! ;) Wouldn't be YOU, if there wasn't a nudge or two. :)

Thanks Tim, he really does seem to have his wits about him. This time last year, I wouldn't have thought I had a snowball's chance of even having a relationship with him , the way things got all out of shape because of my brother and I was SO mad and hurt that I was ready to write off both of them and just concentrate on my family here. I AM so thankful for the way things seem to be turning out. In my heart, I knew what I should do (because of my Faith) and you all have really been a big part of this also. Your expression of kind thoughts, experiences, and just reminding me of who is really in charge and all. It all helps.

                             Thank you, Bill

Thank you Bobby, It certainly is looking like it. What happened last year, really hurt and as time goes, I find myself thinking about it a lot less (rarely now) and trying to move on and give my Dad the enjoyment that my brother can't seem to understand. It's too bad, but that is the way it's going. My main concern is to try to reduce the stress in my Dads life and I'm doing the best I can (and it seems to be working 8) )  Have a Happy Father's Day yourself Bobby! ;)

Seems like I'm running a bit behind on getting to this. :-[ Chris is right, Tim's got a good point alright! ;) Wouldn't hurt my feelings! :) Be kinda like my Dad and my Granddad, wayyyy back there. 8)

I popped in on this thread again because this coming Wednesday (July 16th), is my Dad's 83rd Birthday. :) I just reminded him about a week ago, that he was really concerned about his 63rd Birthday, cause that was how old his Dad was when he died and now he's going to be 20yrs past that. 8)  I really don't know if Dad will go so far as to actually sell out and move up in this area though. Pretty big undertaking at his age. If there was someway that I could move him in here and him have his own space, I would. But, we have a very small house with 4 of us here already (a bit cramped now). I'm expecting to get down there for his Birthday, to take him to lunch and visit with him. Maybe he and I can discuss it and make some kind of decision. There are times when I sure need to be able to talk to him and face to face would be so much better. With the cost of gas continuing to go up and my responsibilities here, it sure gets hard to see him as much as I'd like. I am just doing the best I can and then I get mad at myself cause it just doesn't feel like it's good enough, ya know? Don't know if I'm making any sense, so I'm going to go for now.

Of course you are making sense Bill...being sandwiched between 2 generations is one of the hardest things you will experience. You have one side of you wanting to do more for your dad and the other pulls you toward your responsibilities as a husband and father. Just know that deep down inside that you are doing everything you can for both sides. It is a delicate balancing act and so far I gotta admit that it sounds like you are doing a heck of a job.

I haven't had to face this yet but witnessed my dad dealing with my grandpa getting older (especially after grandma died as he seemed to lose most of his will and drive to live). My dad was a bit luckier in that all 3 of his kids were moved out and had productive lives so he wasn't pulled back nearly as often as you are and didn't have the care issues that you do.

Just keep your chin up and know that you will reap what you sow and so far you have done a heck of a job sowing!!

Well, my brother's wife (NOT my sister-in-law) called me today. ::)
She had seen where Dad had written down that I was coming down for his Birthday. Anyway, she started going on about how his Alzheimer's is getting worse. Thing is, I'm not so sure that he even has Alzheimer's. She talks about how his memory is slipping and all. How forgetful he is. He doesn't seem to have a problem with his memory (any more than lots of folks) to me. Then she starts talking about needing to change Doctors, because Dad's Doctor (that he's been going to for some time now) is not keeping up with all that's going on with my Dad and such as that. When I am with him, he doesn't seem to have any more of a memory problem that I do!  Okay, maybe that was a bad example. ::) Gotta throw some humor in now and then or I'm liable to throw something else. Anyway, after I got home (I was out at the time of that call), I called my Dad and told him about the call and then we discussed the things that are and have been going on. He's not really sure about actually selling out and moving up here, he was just mad at my brother and threw that out there. I kinda didn't want him to sell his place but, like I told him, it is HIS choice to make and I'm not going to tell him that he has to or push him to do it either. No doubt, ut would make it so much easier on me to make sure that things were going well for him. But, if push comes to shove, I'll just have to figure out a way to be able to be there for him, so he does not have depend on them for ANYTHING! I'll tell you, between the things I deal with everyday and THEN have to worry about what they might do with my Dad, I'm just about to go nuts! One consolation is,  Dad says they don't have a clue about the changes that we have made (as far as his bank account, CDs and such). Only thing I can come up with to help the situation, is to convince Dad to have someone come in to check on him and help out him with whatever he needs. I told Dad that it really bothers me that I can't be there as often as I'd like and he knows that I've got a pretty good load and has NO problem with that. I also told him that I had hoped for this visit to be just a casual, easy going relaxed time that we could spend together. But, I told him that we really have see about getting things settled. I'm just hoping and praying that when I come home tomorrow evening We will have gotten a secure plan to act on and some kind of time frame. The sooner we can get things set straight, the sooner my Dad and I can have some peace and the sooner he can more fully enjoy the rest of the time he has on this earth. I don't want to take anything away from Jay's Daughter or Paul's Sister, but we really need your prayers on this matter. But Bre and Paul's Sister comes first, okay? Sorry about going on, I'm just so put out about this whole thing, I'm ready for my Dad to have them evicted and get it over with. When he's talked about it before, I really didn't want to see anybody done like that, but they aren't going to stop until, they are made to stop.

Okay, that's it, I'm going to try to back out of here and let someone else post stuff.

Wow..that initiall bit..that just blows me away man...Its more then likely that the Dr isnt giving them info because of the previous BS...Hope you get things settled out...

Chris

Yeah, I've heard of folks trying to "railroad" someone into a nursing home before, but never thought I'd be so close to an attempt! Now, I'm no expert when it comes to Alzheimer's, but I'm going to have to hear it from his Doctor and, even then, I might still be skeptical. I'm hoping that I can arrange to have a meeting with that Doctor along with my Dad, so he can see that Dad has a son who is trying to look out for him (and not his money & possessions).

                                Take care, Bill ;)
