22' ladder that fell off a truck as it changed lanes infront of me at 70+ mph. :o missed it by 1 or 2 inches at best had to move hard right and share lane with a car that wasn't expecting me. >:(  driver of car then tries to swerve into me stupid people in cages >:( >:( >:

Years ago, I was riding my old BMW R100RS to work in heavy "peak hour" traffic, following a house painters van, on the notorious "Western Ring Road" here in Melbourne, Australia.

He went over a bump in the road, and his aluminum extension ladder virtually flew off the roof, straight at me! It hit the road in front of me and slid towards me, all this happened within a split second of course, but in my mind I can recall every moment of the event, like an old newsreel.

Anyway, I dared not swerve due to the fact that it was sliding towards me, but was now almost at a right angle to my direction of travel, so I just braced myself, accellerated, and hit it! I dunno how, but I got over it and kept going, and when I looked in my mirror I saw that I'd picked it up and it had sailed into the front of the car behind me!

The van had pulled over to the side of the road to retrieve his ladder I guess, but when the driver saw the carnage that it had caused, he took off. Last I saw was the car that had collected the ladder chasing the van............. I just continued to work on my poor battered old bike, enjoying the beautiful spring day that I hadn't previously noticed, and happy to still be among the living. Cheers, Terry. :D
Craziest sh!t I ever saw.......Heading up 880 close to the Oakland Coliseum.....I'm driving a tractor/trailer (pup trailer-28 footer)..... I'm in the middle lane with one car in between me and a VW bug........All the sudden I see this wheel rollin' and I see this bug pullin' over to the right shoulder on three wheels!!! This dude is makin' a mad dash and causin' people to slam on brakes but he makes it and doesn't cause any accidents. Meanwhile this wheel is  gainin' momentum and hopping higher & higher and right over the center divider into the part of a T-bird where the roof meets the top of the windshield. It all happened super quick and I seen the wheel hit the car in my rear -view. Man......I could see it crushed the holy sh!t out of that car but couldn't see what became of him cause I was going the other way and very quickly lost sight of the whole thing. If that wheel whould have hit a bike...........hooooooooooly sh!t!!!!! There was another thing in the news years ago out here in California where a trucker pulling an empty flatbed that had just had brake work done........Coming thru 680 from Fremont to Pleasanton and lost a dually off the trailer that mowed down a Cal-Trans worker on the side of the road killing him instantly.........(yuh Think?????)..........You just really gotta be alert and careful out there.

Went for a ride a few weeks ago with a few a blokes from work down the Putty. About 400 klicks all up with my K7, an ST1100, new Beema with GPS (prick can't read a street directory), Guzzi Le Mans & assorted other bikes, about 10 in all.

Anyway, we're trundling along at about 130kmh & Pete on his Super Blackbird goes by at about 500 miles an hour & disappears in the distance.

Ten minutes later we find him around a corner sitting on the bike with a big skid mark behind him.

He was shaking & muttering something about 240 & this happens.

Forgot to mention he was stopped about three feet from the biggest moo cow I have ever seen.

I'll get his jocks & mail them to you Terry & you can compare skidmarks.

Oakland freeways can be really exciting sometimes. Watched a VW bus engine grenade once.. had a perfect view from directly behind. Flames and parts everywhere.
Seem to recall an incident where a truck full of scrap iron was bouncing along the Cypress - he lost a leaf spring that came down and speared someone at ground level - ouch.

I hit a possum this weekend - scared the bejezus out of me!

When I got home, I sat on the couch, cracked open a beer and related the story to my wife.

She then pointed to my pants leg - COVERED IN POSSUM BITS!!!!!!!!

Yuck!

I wouldn't dare, she would hit me back.  Then SHMBO would really knock some sence into me. ;)

What's a "SHMBO"?  ???
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Of course, as in Ho, Hat, Here, Hen, and Hy.

"English" is just a moniker these days. Axe anybody.

A dead body about two weeks ago.

I was heading south on the Skyway Bridge, and just past the southern tollbooth, there were a couple cars pulled over. I cut to the second lane from the right in case one pulled out, and just missed a pile of something in the road. I pulled over, figuring maybe the folks on the side of the road didn't want to move whatever it was, but it would have messed me up pretty bad if I had hit it, so I figured I'd move whatever it was. As I walked up, trying to figure out what it was, a car came up and it's headlights lit it up pretty well. That's when I noticed it was a body. I was about 10-15 feet away at this point. The car whose lights let me see what it was, hit him. Hard. He rolled along under the car, and came to a stop right in front of me. I turned and walked away, feeling sick. The driver of the car I saw hit him had pulled over and jumped out of his car, and was running up to me, screaming "What did I hit?" I grabbed him by the shoulders, and told him to get back in his car. I told him he was already dead, and there was nothing he could do. He broke down, and I left him standing with his arms around his wife.

Articles in the paper the next couple days said he was only 25, no idea why he was walking out near the bridge, and that 4 different cars had the hit him. I saw the fourth. The second, third, and fourth stopped. The first didn't, and hasn't been found.
