Owl's Head Vintage Bike Meet - August 26th
« on: August 27, 2007, 06:36:35 AM »
Here is a recap of my awesome trip to the Owl's Head Vintage Bike Meet up in Maine.

My day started by leaving my house at 4am for a 165 mile trip up to Portland ME to meet up with Ben (UnCrash).. I got to his house at about 7:15 and we got everything packed up and were off by 7:45...

We decided to take Rt. 1 up as it is just a little nicer and slower paced ride.  The weather was PERFECT for the ride up.  Mid 70's with a slight breeze.  NO traffic at all. (Riding early on a Sunday morning has its benefits)

We were driving along without incident until about 45 minutes into the ride when Ben's fairing decided to eject the turn signal cover in the middle of some nice little Maine town. We stopped on the side of the road and attempted to make an emergency repair with superglue but the only thing that seemed to stick together was my fingers.  We gave up on the repair and Ben packed it up making his already fantastic looking fairing even MORE fantastic.

The parts of the ride where we rode along the water were INSANE.. The cool breeze filled with wonderful smells of fresh ocean air are proof positive that there IS a God and he wanted us to ride motorcycles... The bridge in Wiscasit? was especially great.

Just over 2 hrs later we ended up At the museum and got in for free because we have really cool bikes(or they were older than 1987). I like to think it was the former rather than the latter.  It was about 10am and there were already over 100 vintage bikes of all makes and models.  We proceeded to register our bikes and take a look around.

In the next couple hours the vintage bike section swelled to over 400 bikes.  We met up with Andy and Chris and their significant others.  I counted well over 20 SOHC'ers some of which were in absolutely INSANE condition. We finished walking around for a bit and were ready to head back to Portland, this time Andy was going along for the ride in his way back to Boston.

We had a great ride back with a BEAUTIFUL twisty back roads detour... and a petcock incident that left me stranded..(I dont want to talk about it)

We parted ways with Andy on 295 in Portland and Went back to Ben's house.  I packed up my bike and headed home...

330 miles in the truck
170ish miles on the bike
11 total hours on the road
would do it again in an instant....

Thanks for a great time..

Now some pics....

here is a small fraction of the bikes:
