I think I already know the answer to this but, I hoping I'm wrong. Is it necessary to split the cases in order to replace the main shaft seal on a cl/cb360 engine?

Cant remember, but if you need a seal get one and if it has a "LIP yes if not no

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
