Topic: Fork seals/Dust covers info needed

Well.......I still havent got a bike yet. I sold my old truck but the guy ended up selling the 78 750 I was looking at before I sold my truck.

Anyway......My buddy at work that has the 74 750 is wanting to get rid of his fork gaiters and wants the sleeker look of the dust covers. The 78 I was looking at had the covers...not gaiters. Will they fit his 74? He's getting ready to replace his seals and would like to add the covers while he has the forks apart.

Is there a certain year/part number I need to look for?

I used the search but could only find a post from a guy wanting gaiters instead of covers.

PS......just an update on my bike situation......My neighbor has a....I hope this isnt called cussing on this site....74 H1 500 Kawasaki that hes gonna give me for getting his Honda 3 wheeler running. All the 3 wheeler needs is the carb rebuilt and a battery. The Kawa needs alot more. He has put Ape hangers, extended forks, and a King/Queen 2 story seat on it He still has the stock seat/tail light pod and handle bars...but not the original forks. Im planning on going thru the motor top to bottom since it has sat for a long while. It also has oil injector troubles (maybe) or it had carb problems. He said he had to replace the rings in one cylinder after burning them....then burned them again...same cyl.  But for the price of fixing his 3 wheeler.....I cant turn it down.

I took the gaiters off my old '72 CB500 back in the day and replaced them with the dust covers for that cleaner look.  Only bad thing was that the fork leg was half plated.   About two inches of unfinished, rough tube was exposed below the bottom triple clamp.  It looked bad.  Maybe the '74 is fully finished but before he buys any
dust seals he should pull a gaiter down and have a look.

He has already modified his gaiters for the dust seal look......he cut them down. His forks look good.....he just wants a "real" dust seal on them instead of the cut down ones.

You can buy the dust seals for any later model - just check the fork diameter (I don't know if they changed over the life of the 750)

I put 550 dust seals on my 500 and threw away the gaitors (see avatar). You may also have to tidy up the headlamp ears around the lower triple tree as it will have all the mounting gubbins (technical English term) for the gaitors.
