What to cafe? my cb350F or get a 550?
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:06:32 AM »
Last fall i bought a 350F with plans to restore/cafe it.  Well now I have a garage and access to a powder coating oven big enough to fit a bike frame.  The bike is a 73 350F with 1300 original miles.  The chrome is a little rough in places, but the bike is in pretty good condition.  Recently i picked up a nicely refreshed 73 350G and it's been my daily rider.  I'm beginning to think that fixing up the 350F will be a waste because it won't have enough power to keep me entertained in the long run.  I was thinking about going bigger.  A guy at work at a 74 550F with 30k miles he might be willing to part with... or I could scour ebay/craigslist.

so I'm left with the question of what to do?  cafe the 350F or look for a 550F?  If you suggest 550 what years are best?

Here is a pic of my 350F & G

Thanks
-Ben

If you are used to small bikes and high revs, you should be ok with the 350F.

Well a 550 will have less than 50 HP too, especially an old tired one, so that's not a real powerfull bike either. I've been on a 400 a few times, and it's doesn't feel a lot less powerfull than my 550f.

Let's face it, these are old bikes. They will never be really powerfull compared to a new sportsbike. I like the look of the 350f more than the 550f (I think it's the tank), so it would be a great start for a cafe. If money is not a problem you can get more horsepower from that little engine too.
