Yeah, chaps look silly on any biker, and the "ghey quotient" is increased exponentially with the addition of fringes (tassles?) and concho's.

Leather pants are ok, except of course in summer when they're at their hottest and stinkiest, so as summer is just around the corner here in Oz, I'm gonna invest in a pair of Aussie "Draggin Jeans", they're heavyweight denim with Kevlar in all the appropriate area's, so much cooler than leather, and just as much protection in a "get off", for a reasonable price.

Draggin Jeans are available in the US, as are a lot of copycat products, but "Draggin Jeans" invented the concept. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I didn`t realize there were so many gays around here where I live, 90 percent ride cruisers and half of them are wearing chaps.

I`ve got a pair of Draggin jeans and the kevlar shirt and I give them a big thumbs up.

When it gets to 100 F like it`s been for the last 6 weeks here, nothing beats Joe Rocket armor
mesh pants, it`s kind of like swimming without trunks ;D

Yeah, I believe that San Fransisco is the largest growth area for chaps sales in the US, dunno why though, are there a lot of cowboys in San Fran?

Hey I'm not so sure about those "mesh pants" though Einy, I hope they're not like "Mesh singlets" mate?

I think you better quickly post a pic so we can judge your personal "Ghey Quotient", (not that there's anything wrong with that..........) Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

I guess Im a little surprised. There is clearly a difference in the wearing of chaps between the picture posted earlier of the gay dudes, and a rider on the road. Even if I saw an example of that pic in real life I would still wear them when it got cold. What surprises me is the amount of opinions that automatically assume a high level of queerness just for the decision of riding in leg leather versus full leather. I wasnt expecting such a blanket statement. Ill agree that I would chuckle if I saw someone on a little moped, or a rider on a 110 degree day wearing chaps, but even in this instance maybe they were limited on the funds to get what they wanted. Maybe any extra layer helped their secure feeling as they rode. Hell I dont know. Maybe they just want to look cool or compensate for a little weenie. I do think that happens quite often.

As stated before, Im just stunned that the majority of feedback on this subject is negative and It would highly discourage me from ridin with any of you who assume Im gay for keepin my leg fronts warm. Granted thats all they do, until I stick back the money for the apparel upgrades, Ill continue to ride with what Ive got instead of parking the scoot.

This is a public forum and I still welcome all comments. Its one persons right to voice their own opinion, and its my right to give a rats brimmer or not.

Hey I'm just going by what the protective value of the chaps vs. pants are.  If you want something to ride in the cold, why not pick up some ski pants from the local goodwill?  They will keep you infinitely warmer than any chaps you could buy, would cost less and would probably have about the same protective qualities.

Buying leather to keep warm generally isn't a good way to get the job done.

It's kinda like when somebody decided Hawaiian shirts were gay.  Used to see Hawaiian shirts all the time.  Now they're gay.  Kinda like when you could use the word gay to mean something besides homosexual.  Now you can't.  People are weird.  You just have to put up with it.  Wear your chaps when its cold and be secure in your personhood.

Well I reckon if you wore both a Hawaiian shirt AND Chaps, the "ghey Quotient" would be bouncing off the rev limiter, ha ha! :D

Not only does the fringe make the leather dry faster it also ups the ghey quotient about 50 fold.

All together now!!!!!
Y M C A
Fringe is handy, on chaps and the bike too.  It's natural "flapping in the breeze" action keeps the flies off!  Some bikers can really benefit from this!   :D

+1

Just having some fun.  In this thread, "gay" has nothing to do with sexual preference.  It's just a "I'm gonna harrass you" kind of thing...

...why not pick up some ski pants from the local goodwill?  They will keep you infinitely warmer than any chaps you could buy...

IMO, on a bike going 60+ I really think chaps would keep you warmer than ski pants.  It's not the temperature as much as the wind that hurts.  Then again, I've been wrong before...

Shouldn't that be "Thay, are you chapth wearing chapth?

Seriously, does every thread I post to eventually become a red-headed step-child of the Shameless thread?   :-X
