frames sizes
« on: July 13, 2005, 01:31:13 PM »
hey everyone,
this is my first post so i wanted to say hello to everyone!
here's my question. are frames different for the different engine sizes? i.e. is the frame for a 550 smaller than the frame for a 750?  i have a 71 750 and want to keep it stock. however, i also want to find another 750 with which to build a cafe racer.
thanks everyone.

Hello Doug.

Yes the frames are different for the different models, although I have heard of people with 550 and 650 engines in a 500 frame (coz the engines are basically similar). You can fit anything into anything if you spend enough time, effort and money!

Ideally, you should try to find another 71 frame if you're going to swap bits back and forth.  While certainly very few changes were made from 69-76, I'm sure there are some that might catch you by surprise.

Many years ago, I had a friend who managed to fit a Ford V8 motor into an Austin 7 car. He had bags of sand lying on the floor to stop it bouncing about too much and had great fun in blowing away more expensive cars and seeing the look of surprise on their faces.

I had a '63 Valiant convertible with a Buick motor.  It's called a "hot rod".

Maybe that's why I'm one of the ones with a 650 motor in a 550 frame.....
I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.
