Nice idea for a thread, Bill.  Here's my Dad, who passed away in June, 2 days before his 78th birthday.  That is a '64 Duo Glide that I later bought from him when I was 19.

Thanks ofreen, Cool to see some of the pictures and hear about them too! Sorry to hear about your Dad too! :(  Having something of theirs does seem to give a kind of connection to them. Thanks for posting the picture of the Duo Glide too!

                            Take care guy, Bill ;)

When I look at old photo's I feel that they are still here in some way, not gone. I can still hear the old tales such as fixing snapped drive belts with a hair pin and so on. A can remember me grandads comment when I took my new 550K3 to show him " my god four pots that'll crack the ton and then some eh!" and me gran wanting a go on the back!

Cheers

Grizly

I enjoy looking at the old photos also and when I tell my Dad about some of the things on bikes nowdays, he just can't believe it. Only thing he wants now days is an Old Indian 45. He wants a bike with a Flathead motor, no overhead valves for him. ;) I told him that, if I could afford to buy one, he's have it. :)

Sorry to hear bout your dad John. That big C certainly has a lot to answer for.

Loved the pics and thanks for posting them. I can't help with the bike either. Mind I do like that term you used "REHYDRATING". Think I'll add that to my vocabulary.

Cheers

Thanks for the ID 754.  My family moved away from where my grandparents lived when I was 5, so I didn't get to be around him and his bikes much.  He had a bunch of Harleys, I believe he had 16 at one point.  I'll try to dig up some more pics.

Artfrombama:  The fourth bike you listed in your ownership, as a "dream?" was properly known as the "Benly".  That word in Japanese presumably means "convenient" which is what that 150cc twin really was.  The 305cc version, which was very similar in styling and which could easily be mistaken for the same model (except everything was a little larger) was known as the "Dream".  Hence the little 150 version was often called the "baby Dream", or even misnamed just the "Dream".  There also were 125cc and 250cc versions of these same models, the same except for a smaller bore.  And initially, Dreams were dry-sump but later became wet Dreams... :D

No, didn't know the proper name for the bike at the time, apparently still don't :-[. As a matter of fact, I rode the thing around for 2-3 days in 1st before I discovered the "gears". I was 12-13, my dad knew nothing about motorcycles and neither did I.

Thanks Hondanutrider for the correction.

here's something my partner's nephew built for some American event, he built it here in NZ and took it to some sort of bike show, he's a clever little fellow isn't he?
Not sure why he sent me the pole dancers bike picture but hey everyone likes poledancers don't they?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

That's one cool picture. Aside from that whole East Asia thing and the culture clashing and the civil unrest and lousy economy... I envy you guys!

Thanks Bill & Ecosse, I have a picture of myself taken at same time somewhere, I will try to find it and upload if vanity will allow. The photo of my wife/CB sits on the computer desk to remind me of simpler and happier times. :)

  • and still a expert welder,period...
just found this picture back......it made my eyes well up......the little newspaper cutout glued to it reads"oh,golden times of my youth, never will you return,i could cry about it sometimes"........

I most have been 11 or 12 in that picture.....that was my very first moped, that's where it all started.....
It was a moped given to me by  my now late uncle Koos, brand name was berini.....on this picture i was just done putting a engine under it from a puch maxi, cause the other engine had died.....I attached it with 2 strips of metal, rope and what not....
no mufler, carb I made fit with an old rubber hose etc.... hardly any brakes, but boy did I ever have fun on that thing.....
The little newspaper piece I taped on there when I was around 18 years old....I'm 36 now..
What I would give to be back in those days for abit.....

you have to excuse me,going back now for a trip down sweet memory lane....
Marti, I want you to know, I like you an awful lot, but guys have said far less and left wearing their drinks on their shirts.

My first CB750, purchased new in July 1969 and met a tragic end in August 1969. It's parked behind my parent's house in East Vancouver, B.C. Sorry about the pic quality, it's a scan of a Polaroid, another relic of the age.

A girl in a red Cortina blew through a Stop sign and I T-boned her in the driver's door. She went on to wipe out the front fender on a lamp post. I woke up with a fireman wrapping a bandage around my head, then code 3 to the hospital. The bike was a write-off with front wheel in the pipes, steering head bent, etc. I got stitches in my chin, fractured my radius bone and it's come back to haunt me. I would say the helmet saved me. Took me until '71 to get another 750, one of the ones in my avatar.
Cliff.

My dad was a Harley guy till "the Big One," WWII.  He didn't get a bike when he returned home.  My mom and dad didn't want me to get one - too many people on the road nowadays (the '70's) they said.  Boy were they pissed when I told them, and I was 27, I bought the 350 in 1973.  I bought my Harley the year after he died.  I know he would have liked it.

I'm not sure if it's his bike in the 1st photo but it's his in the 2nd.
