hello - pic of my 500/4
« on: September 25, 2007, 01:07:00 PM »
hi

i live in the uk and ride a 1975 cb500/4 which i rebuilt from a basket case twelve years ago.  it is my regular bike and i am very happy with it.  i like the idea of bikes being used rather than just looked at.

Hi Florence.

Where are you? Too few 500/4s in the UK (I've got two).

i live in somerset.   You are right steve d there are too few 500/4s around.  the last time i saw another one on the road was in bristol about eight years ago.  i always keep my eye out for another one as a spares machine but nothing has cropped up in the last twelve years.  i do have a few spares so if anyone needs to swap at some point i may be able to help.

do you know anything about period conversion to twin disc on the front?

There's an article in the FAQ about twin disc conversions.

Nearest member to you is probably Bryan Jones (BryanJ) in Gloucester. He's an ex-dealer mechanic and 500/4 anorak!

You see parts bikes on eBay from time to time. Unfortunately (and eBay being what it is) they are described as "non-runner" when really they should be "heap of s**t"! And £300-odd is too much for a parts bike.

I have a spare 550F engine, three sets of carbs, a Dunstall 4-1 and various gaskets, o-rings and other bits stashed in my garage.

thanks for that, i have set of barrels with pistons and rings very low mileage and a spare bottom end crank u.s.(someone nicked the top end out of my garage) and various brake and frame bits.  good to know there are people around who know these bikes.

the simplest way is to use an image hosting site like photobucket.com, and simply post the image address (IMG code)  just pick a site, set up an account (photobucket and others are free,) click upload and navigate to the file you want on your computer.  once it uploads, you can copy the image address from below the thumbnail and paste it in your post.  viola

and welcome
