Buy a good helmet
« on: September 27, 2007, 04:22:47 PM »
My brother decided it was time to get off the bike - not necessarily at the right time.  He walked away bruised but otherwise undamaged.  Thanks in no small part to a quality helmet.

It's easier to buy a quality helmet than finding a new brain.

That’s questionable...  ;D

I hope this convinces the non believers to wear a helmet.

Sorry Bobby...that aint gonna happen! They will likely try to convince you that the whole reason he "got off the bike at the wrong time" was because he was wearing a helmet in the first place!!  ::)  ::)  ::)

Since I work for the city's emergengy services, we are often called upon to handle traffic around bad crashes and such.  Last Saturday night I was out on the bike enjoying the nice weather, and my Nextel was beeping like crazy, so I stopped to check-in.  They told me it was a fatal crash on one of the main state roads in town and traffic had to be re-routed.  Turns out ther was a full-bagger Harley that was rear ended by a van.  The lady on the back of the bike was thrown over the roof of the van and hit the ground----no helmet, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.  The driver of the bike was flown out by helicopter to a trauma center.  Here's the link to the news story.  http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=44685&src=2
I saw the bike, and it was all mushed-up on the back end.  I'm not saying that wearing a helmet in this case would have saved the woman, but who knows?   :(

I'd bet wearing a helmet wouldn't have made it any worse.

Well let's hope they go down before they have a chance to breed and pass on the defective genes.

Last week an older rider came off his cruiser in road construction just north of town. He landed on his head. "Speed was a factor" to quote the police report. Also, tellingly, the report ended with the comment "riders are strongly advised to wear appropriate, approved, helmets when they ride".

Apparently he was wearing an ashtray (aka beanie).

I went down a few weeks ago, and while I was wearing a helmet, it was the MC jacket in 100 degree weather that saved me from skin grafts.....

minimum safety gear for me is Helmet, Gloves, Jacket, Jeans, and Sandals....

Leather pants instead of jeans, when I can......

You're so safe, you even wear a condom when you ride.

In New Zealand it's illegal to ride without a helmet. I was gob-smacked to see an H.D. rider last weekend out with his mate and he had a leather doo-rag on his head.

What a stupid prick, trying to be the tough guy.

That was the first time I had seen someone on a motorcycle without a helmet in 30 plus years.

you should see where I live.... no helmet laws.

the best ones are the crotch rocket riders with the helmet that matches the bike, bolted to the seat.

Heh its riders like that i find joy in smackin in the back of the head when i roll up beside them on the bike..so far most of them have gotten the message..mostly because it happens just as suddenly as a car hitting them.

Down in the hood, the homeboys take a full face helmet and just stick the bottom rim over their foreheads.

It's a fashion trend, I saw it on "Americas Next Top Model".
