i know to some this sounds awful. i would like to paint my stock exaust black, the chrome is beyond cleaning up,but has no holes in it.how would i paint the chrome? would it last? vht makes header paint good for 1500 degees.have tried everything to clean up the chrome from wire whee to cleaner to steel wool. its pitted too much, even parts that do clean up other areas wont.

The best thing I have found to prepare chrome surfaces for paint is to buff it up real good with one of these "rust removers".  I have used VHT high temp paint, but the baking is a hassle.  I recently painted the stainless muffler on my new bike (!) and used Krylon BBQ black.  It seems to be holding up pretty good but is by no means permanent.  It is also is a deeper black than the factory coating on the ex. pipes.

I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.

I recently painted the downpipes on my VFR with just "High temp paint" good for around 600 Degs (Presume C) "Good for stoves & bar-B-Q's.
take the time to sand and prepare them first. I was concerned with the adhesion and temperature but, all is good.
1500 Degs..... I'd worry about other things rather than the paint if one was expecting that kind of heat.
and when I was done ....I saw "Engine exhaust paint" in black in my local motor store for 8 Euros.!
