Now that is sharp! Whoever does your paint knows what he's doing. Was the rate reasonable?
I bet if you entered it in a show when your done (you know you should) and put it beside some early Interceptors, those not in the know would think it belonged in the lineup. When I read you were going for an Interceptor theme, I instantly thought of a color combo similar to what you're using there. You realize we'll be expecting a V-four inbetween the rails next summer.
Just figured I'd throw that out there on the pistons. It is so incremental, I wonder why Pops even bothered? Worth maybe .25?

Installing the engine was a lot faster than I feared thanks to the FAQ’s section of this great site.
Who ever came up with the idea of laying the engine on its side and then positioning the frame over it was a genius.
It was so easy installing the engine this way and not even the slightest mark on a freshly painted frame.

I dunno, it's a tough call but I think either would really look good. Take a picture and black the ear out with a marker to compare.

A newer bike may be faster on track day, maybe, but your bike is smothered in character! A good reminder why in part we're attracted to these 'relics'.

I think those ears will look alright once the motors in there to tie it together a bit, being silver too.

paint em red, with maybe a white stripe around the edge.

one of the things I like most about 71 and earlier 750s is the continuity that the painted headlight ears give the bike...even better with headlight shell painted to match..

Just read all 17 pages of the thread. Wow, the quality of work into this bike is ridiculous.

I'm about to do an r1 front end on my cb550f, that's how I found your thread. Can you just provide a little insight into how you exactly fitted the front end and what bearing you used. I got a little confused reading. I am going to be using the R1 front wheel as well.

Well, certainly worth the wait! The Interceptor scheme is beautiful and aggressive, the bike is starting to look really serious, more like a thinly disguised roadracer than a cafe bike, just love it!! . Can't wait for the final motor fitting but have questions. Did you get numbers and duration on the 650 cam? What carbs were you going to use and what exhaust system?

Get it on the dyno.

I really wish I could paint like that. I have a painter that does a lotta bikes. He’s really fussy about paint and graphics. He is the one who insists on painting all the factory graphics instead of using decals.

For the Interceptor scheme, I worked on the colors and placement and Michael added special touches like the gold pinstripe, factory logos and final layout. The VFR anniversary edition and the new CB1100 where part of my inspiration for this bike.

Thanks for that. I’m really pleased with the direction it’s going too. Funny you identify road racer in that scheme. I was looking for a vintage road racer fairing for the longest time but couldn’t find one so this is it.
As for the 650 cam specs, that’s on the list for next week. Don’t worry I’ll get to it eventually.

Oh the exhaust is a chrome Kerker 4 into 1 with the Kerker megaphone muffler and 1 1/2" race baffle and stock carbs for now.

The red is called Velocity Red and it’s from a Mazda RX8, the blue is a limited edition Prowler color and the white is white. I’ll get you the paint codes later in the week when I stop by the painters.

The bike is looking awesome.

Just a word on your "ears". I think the problem is that they look a little heavy (like they could hold a ton). IMO what they need is a little lightening, by way of some holes.

Spent the last couple of weeks reassembling the chassis and working on a NEW shortie, carbon fiber rear fender.
LED signals are now mounted, and the LED tail light will be installed as soon as the fender is finished.

Your “550Four” graphics where awesome. We used the graphics file to create paint masks.
They gave Michael the perfect opportunity to paint color matching graphics on the side panels.

The bike is FINISHED! Yippee!

It fired up instantly and sounds sooo good with the Kerker megaphone muffler.
A lot deeper and throaty sound than the other Kerker muffler I had.
The throttle response seems quicker too. MRiech's porting and the 650 cam should be sweet.
