no, I honestly didn't think to check the part numbers! good idea.
I have the parts list for the 550 on my computer, and I can download the one for the 500T. I would imagine the complete units would be different part numbers though, since the 550 fork has a boot, and the 500T fork has a dust seal. maybe I will check the tube part #s. In any case, like I said, for $20 plus shipping, I went ahead and got them.
As for bending the forks back, I did consider it...but decided against it for a couple reasons. One is that I don't have the equipment to do it. Also, the same fork would also require the removal of two sheared bolts (that mounted the fender). The cost of getting those bolts drilled out and inserts put in was more than I paid for the new 500T forks. Plus the idea of heating up the tubes and beding them back scares me. I've read that this can introduce stresses and points of failure, and for the cost of new forks I figured that was the best route to go.
My plan is to use the stock 550 triples and the 500T forks. The tubes are 35mm on each, and based on the numbers and measurements on the bottom part, they are identical to the ones that came off the bike. So I think it should work.
I will let you know how it goes! Thanks for all the advice.
